Roberto has been quoted a few times that he would like to catch one game in the majors before he retires. He last played that position when he was at UCONN.

Yup. Don't want him catching this year. Maybe if/when we're eliminated from the postseason, but not before.

And I cast a vote for Jacobs in there, cause, hell, why not? Let's see what the kid can do behind the plate.

Jacobs isn't great behind the plate. I've seen him play for Binghamton - I like him MUCH better at first.

I read somewhere that they were down on defense at first in AA as well. When asked about his fine play so far, Willie said something like, "Yeah, well he hasn't had to make a throw to second or the plate yet."

It wasn't quite that harsh, but that was the general idea.

I was going to choose one, because that would add to the fun, but I chose two instead, because a blowout loss needs something to look forward to. Though by the time he caught, maybe nobody would be watching any more

I chose two also. In a blowout win, you're rubbing it in the other team's face if you do something silly. In a blowout loss, second basemen pitch, batboys pinch-run, and forty-something middle relievers catch. It's all good.

And Jacobs is fine right where he is also.
He wasn't considered a very good catcher before his missed virtually all of 2004 with a shoulder injury and, in his return this year, has played more DH & 1B than catcher.
So with our reg 1st baseman AND catcher down, he fits the bill as the fill-in 1st baseman and 3rd catcher. Two catchers is sometimes too few because you rarely want to use the backup to PH (particularly when it's 75 y/o Mike DeFelice) but 3 is too many. Jacobs as the emergency guy puts us in the desireable spot of effectively having 2-1/2 - and one of them has a potent LH bat.
No need to stick him back there at this point short of one of those long-game/multi-switch nights.

No freakin' way should Roberto be allowed behind the plate. The only way I can see this is if the Mets are eliminated from play off contention, then let him catch the final inning in the last game of the season.

Seriously, to risk injury a valuable part of your bullpen just so he can say he caught in the majors is crazy (IMO). Most fans and the media would be screaming for Randolph's head if Roberto were to be injured while making a meaningless appearance behind the plate in a blow out.

I have no problem letting him do it but only after the Mets have clinched or been eliminated, now is not the time for bullshit.
you can't do it in a blowout win as that is the equivalent of running up the score in a football game.
