Benge had a challenge available to him.

Striking out with two out in the ninth with the go-ahead run in scoring position seemse to be when you'd use it.

Probably a strike anyhow, of course.

This is very much like that period in 2021 when everybody was hurt, Kalil Lee and Joneshwy Fargas were in the lineup, the offense was alternately scoring one and zero every night, but the Mets were staying in games by playing for the scoreless tie and hoping they could win on penalty kicks.

Not that it mattered but that's the sixth Grand Slam allowed by NYM pitchers this season. SIX, in 1/3 of a season!

Didn't the Mets go like a year and a half without hitting one some years back?

It doesn’t even matter if it’s a strike. You have to try on anything close.

Not surprisingly, the Mets haven't hit a grand slam this season.  Of course it is difficult to hit a grand slam when the team seldom has 3 men on base in an inning (let alone all at the same time) and the team doesn't hit well with men in scoring position (or any other time).

They will continue to lose. The kids will play more. Guys will get traded and they will lose 90-100 games

I don't think I can swayed on this

This is a very bad baseball team

Close it was.

There’s nothing to be lost by challenging. This has happened a few times this trip. It’s a sign of bad coaching.

Since they had a challenge left, there was nothing to lose in giving it a shot.  The Mets need to  use their ABS Challenges in high leverage situations with men in scoring position or when the game is on the line, as it was in the ninth inning today.

For every game like today's, where the Mets failed to use their challenges, there is another game in which Mets hitters "wasted" their challenges with 2 out and nobody on in the second or third innings.  If a hitter is going to use a challenge in a low leverage situation, then they best be damn sure they are correct.
