Not sure where to put this so I'm sticking it here.

Sometime during Sunday's game, not only did Cowtipper disappear but so did all of his posts!! And in some cases, like that Injury Updates thread where his posts represented the majority of the thread, the entire thread is gone. I have no idea if simply resigning (for lack of a better term) from GCM automatically takes all your posts with you (a very odd feature if that's the case), maybe GCM mgmt can shed light on this. But however if happened, this is the most spectacular exit since 'Avi' many, many years ago, both leaving and taking any trace that you were ever there with you.

I suppose it was triggered by the back and forth he and I had in the Clay Holmes injury thread. It certainly wasn't my intention to drive him off, I just got sick of his constant, and wholly irrational IMO, complaints over Stearns's 'inability' to land better signings off the waiver wire or minor league/independent league FA cast-offs, and even more so by his silent act each time he was asked what kind of player he expects to get  from those ranks. The last post shown in that thread is one of mine but he actually responded to that one sometime yesterday afternoon. I saw it but at that point the game was getting good so, after briefly scanning it, I put it aside with the idea of answering later on. But when later on came around, there it wasn't, and it didn't take long to realize that neither were any of his other posts. The only sign that he was ever here are quotes of his that captured by a responding post.

Anyway, I wasn't sure if anyone else had yet noticed the exit so I thought I'd point it out considering it was both so abrupt and total.

Wow. Very curious. I hope to get an explanation from our admins about this.

I recall something similar happened in the old CPF years ago. Willets Point, who had admin privileges at the time, decided to leave the forum and deleted his profile. That created a big mess that I had to go behind the scenes to fix. Every thread that he had posted in became invisible. It took me a while to figure out what had happened and ultimately I had to recreate his profile.

Do we have the ability to delete our profiles here? (I'll have to see if there's an option. If I find it, I won't, of course, be able to test it.) If so, that's not a good thing. Obviously, people should have the ability to exit the forum, but it shouldn't have this kind of an impact.

My guess is that the ones that disappeared may be the ones that Cowtipper started. (I'm thinking that if the parent post was removed, the replies that hung off it would have been orphaned and rendered invisible. Or perhaps deleted outright.)

But when he posted in a thread that someone else started, the thread remains but his posts are gone. That appears to be the pattern.

Oh, that was easy. Their posts should be back now ...

But they're not. His posts still aren't in places where they used to be and the thread(s?) that he began (at least one that I know of) are also missing entirely.

Nope [he's not banned]. It appears something happened accidentally.

So not only is he not banned (not that it ever occurred to me that he was) but he might not have even left? And, yet, he appears to be the only one this happened to. Tres odd.

I would think your primary concern is to discover why just one person's posts (at least as far as I can tell) disappeared but no one else's. iow, did he cause it somehow, intentionally or otherwise?

It was accidental. He was flagged as a spammer, and no one noticed. When a user is flagged as a spammer, their posts are queued to be deleted. It can be reversed if it's noticed before the system runs its nightly cron jobs.

Who should be the one that notices?

Wow. So anyone has the ability to purge anyone else, and it's irreversible if it's not caught quickly? That's really bad.

No, it's only one of us with advanced permissions. It's likely someone was on cowtipper's profile and fat-fingered a button. It's not particularly easy to do, actually. I'm 95% sure it involves at least two steps, but I don't want to accuse anyone without knowing more.

It's INCREDIBLY unlikely this will happen again. We run ten sites with about 100,000 members. This is literally the first time it has happened, ever.

I think, at a minimum, going forward you ought to delay the purge so that at least several nights pass before it occurs. Also, an alert should go out immediately to whomever can prevent the purge as soon as the button is clicked.

Yeah, somehow this site was set to delete content from spammers. Most of the other sites are set to hide content, so I toggled GCM over to that setting.
