The Mets and Diamondbacks confront each other over the bitter differences the two teams have with each other.  The time is 7:15 PM, and the place is FOX Sports.  (On your dial.  The actual place is Chase Field in Phoenix.)

Clay Holmes comes for the Mets on the hill.  Merrill Kelly brings his 9.95 ERA to defend for the Serpientes.

More importantly, they remain tied for the much-sought-after 14th place in the league-wide standings.  The Rockies are playing the Phils, so whoever wins and whoever loses, hey, they gain on one of them.

This is, of course, true of nearly all matchups.  Fourteenth place is like that.

After this I'm out of Arizona-themed songs so someone else needs to pick up the slack tomorrow.

Instead of the more familiar Glen Campbell hit version I went with this one by Johnny Rivers which was actually an earlier recording. Rivers [John Henry Ramistella] was a terrific singer but also kind of the equivalent of the ballplayer who has a handful of good seasons but not a very long prime. He cranked out a string of hits -- some covers of previously released songs, many coming via professional writers, plus a couple self-written -- between about '64 through '67 but then seemed to get bypassed by the new generation of singer/songwriters. Sill hanging around at age 83 through retired from performing just in the last few years.

Ugh a FOX broadcast combined with the post-mortem love fest of Bobby Cox.  Off to a roaring start, here, national broadcast

Gurriel just had the weakest ABS challenge I've seen yet.  He figured that, if he bailed out, the pitch must be a ball — but his head was completely turned away when it crossed the plate.

Also the organist played "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" that inning for some reason.

At some point I believe managers will tap the breaks on challenges. Maybe something like not before the 8th inning

I do not stream Fox. SNY has a radio call

Alvarez three for three on challenges today.  The last 2 being punch outs for Holmes with the reversal.

This is something Francisco is good at

Vargas with a groundball single to drive in 2 for Arizona.

Where’s the fucking SS. That’s right to the SS hole. Fucking annoying.

Now days a ball up the middle is generally out due to infields shifting toward the pull side.  The hole to the opposite side is what is often now a hit as happened there.

Soto being intentionally walked because no one feared the guys behind him is something everyone foresaw except the dickhead that makes decisions.

the same dickhead that refuses to make any adjustment now.

I think it goes deeper. I think the organization’s hitting philosophy is detrimental. But the one setting it refuses to adjust.

I don't know who this booth is, but they've been less intrusive than the typical Fox broadcast.

AJ Pierszynski is the jock and Ken Rosenthal is the big nerd in the bow tie in the Gelbs position.  I don't know who the PBP guy is, some other dud

Assuming it’s still a 1 run game in the 8th you’d love to PH for Taylor leading off. Problem is there are no good options.

Network PBP guys tend to be in love with their voices.

Local PBP guys tend to like beer.

Anyhow, it would really be nice to see the top of the lineup break through this inning.
