Was that a response to the mound violation?

More to the caught stealing, but it can serve for dual purposes.

No, I mean, was the drilling of Crow-Armstrong a response to the mound violation.

If so, that's a seeming over-reaction by Peterson, but he really put it right down the middle of PCA's back there.

They're doing some winning things today — even that unlikeable Francisco Lindor.

Hanging on to a 1-0 lead is barely winning, but they're doing more winning things than I've seen in any game recently.

Torrens is replacing Rene Rivera as my all time favorite Mets backup catcher. Saved a wild pitch and a run right there

Great comeback by Brazoban, and I'm not making accusations, but his eyes looked like he was still shaking off last night.

I had to bail out of today's game at 5-3 when I got word of a lost shih-tzu in the area, only a mile from where I'm at.

I've been waiting six months for today, but priorities are priorities and I went out dog-hunting.  I circled a radius for a long ways around where the dog was spotted, but I had no luck, apart from losing my phone and my eyeglasses at some point when I got too hot and slung my jacket off.

So I headed home and confessed my fuckup to my poor, much-put-upon wife, but used my laptop to locate my phone ... ish.  As I tracked it, I noticed the Mets were up 9-5 after a Pirates homer.

I zoomed out again, retraced my steps in the vicinity of where my laptop said my phone was, and finally, there it was, atop a grassy knoll.  "DADDY!" it cried, and I cried "BABY!" right back at it, with the eyeglasses lying right next to it.

I zoomed home just in time for the last out, and I'm sorry to say, as important as mojo is, I will not be able to lose my phone again on Saturday.  My wife could not take it.  I'm afraid I already spoiled a big chunk of her birthday today.

But the horrible tradition of no baseball on the first Friday of the season continues, with the Pirates returning to Metland on Saturday.   Career Pirate Mitch Keller goes the Buccos.  Mitch was good enough to start 32 games for Pittsburgh in 2025, and to lose 15 of them, because that's the way baseball works now.  Career Met David Peterson defends for the homeboys.  Peterson was an All-Star in 2025, but faded down the stretch, finishing with an ERA a tick lower than Mitch Keller.

Since the Alleghenys are facing a lefty look for their lineup to flip-flop a little, with Joey Bart catching and in the middle of the order, Oneil Cruz dropped back in the lineup, and Jake Mangum to be ... somewhere.

The first 15,000 fans through the gate will receive a replica 1986 Mets World Championship Ring.  I always thought the authentic versions of those rings were kind of tacky, even by 1980s standards, but whatever. They never ask me.

Interesting what they do with the bullpen here.

They are going to have to either use somebody on consecutive days (gasp!) or turn this slender lead over to Austin Warren.

Ray Burris can't sing any better than most of the "TMOttBG" singers the Cubs employ, but he has some good power for a 75-year-old.

Whew.

In the parallel version of this ballgame taking place in my head, I've got Clay Holmes and Nolan McLean up in the pen.

I see today will be the Devin Williams gut punch walk off.

Well it has to be someone and I think it's his turn.

Ron Darling at Wrigley: 3-6 with a 5.38 ERA in 17 career starts.

(And yeah, send out Weavie Wonder for the ninth.)

With Pham presumably heading out to right to replace Benge, our bench is down to Senger.

Don't you go libeling Senger. That's been tried in the past and hasn't gone well.

I am going to get this reference at about 2 AM.
