The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted April 17 Posted April 17 This team is virtually unwatchable at this point. Virtually no one is hitting. Every opposing pitcher looks like the reincarnation of Cy Young when facing our hapless and inept lineup. The following is a depressing list of the Mets team ranking in MLB for several key offensive Statistics: Batting Average - 25th (hard to imagine there are 5 teams that are hitting worse than the Mets) On Base Percentage - 29th Slugging Percentage -28th OPS - 29th Runs Scored - 26 (Surprised they are doing that well considering the above noted levels of ineptness). Getting Soto back soon will obviously help, but there are far too many holes in the line up for any one player to significantly improve the run production. Lindor and Bichette have to get going. Baty and Benge need to reach a level of at least moderate competence. Robert is doing more than I anticipated, but his hot start is rapidly becoming a distant memory.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Interesting. 30. White Sox .195 - Murakami has a 117 OPS+, but everyone else is horrid. The "team leader" is Chase Meidroth at .222. 29. Reds .200 - Sal Stewart is at .303/.413/.682 and Elly is at .267/.345/.547, but other than that? Yikes. Ke'Bryan Hayes is 3 for 47. 28. Mariners .209 - Brendan Donovan, Luke Raley, and Randy Arozarena are carrying them. Josh Naylor has the worst "qualified" BA in the majors at .118. 27. MFYs .214 - HAH! Ben Rice has been hot, Judge has hit homers but done little else. 26. Mets .220 Honorable mention to the Giants, whose .286 OBP is the only one worse than ours because they don't walk at all.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 18 Posted April 18 There’s no point. Even if the Mets found some way to score enough runs we know that would be the game the bullpen blows. this team seems nowhere near good enough.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18 Posted April 18 The Sporting News, which used to know a lot about baseball, gives the Mets an F. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/new-york-mets/news/mets-get-f-grade-multiple-failing-experiments-so-far-season/5267bbaddbefc0acabe60e7e Quote They own the worst recovery in the National League, have very little offensive production despite the lineup overhaul, with all but Luis Robert Jr being major disappointments among the new additions to the lineup. The pitching additions haven't been great either. Devin Williams has a 6.75 ERA, while Luke Weaver has an 8.10 ERA. Freddy Peralta has been fine with a 3.86 ERA, but overall additions haven't panned out. What other grade could the Mets receive for this start to the year than an "F" grade? It's gone about as bad as it could, and with Jorge Polanco down with an injury alongside Soto, there is plenty to be concerned about for the Mets this season. I couldn't agree more. Later
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I'm starting to believe Stearns bought damaged goods in Bichette
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 19 Posted April 19 The Mets have the 29th ranked OPS through 21 games. It’s a small sample size, but it’s not insignificant. 21 games is 13% of the season. It’s not like they just had one bad road trip. This lineup was built with way too many question marks. But even the reasonable downside wasn’t this bad. So you have to ask the question. What is causing this? Is it really just random? It doesn’t seem like it. We’ve fired hitting coaches, brought in different players, is there something in the team’s organizational philosophy that is faulty? I can’t help but notice that the two best offensive days were the times the game was out of reach. Is that also just coincidence? I feel like that suggests the team is badly pressing.
