And we have almost 3 more years of him.  I understand the logic of trading Nimmo's longer contract for a shorter one, but Semien was already showing signs of decline the past two years.  We shouldn't be surprised that it's continued.

And look not now, but Brandon Nimmo is off to the best start of his career.

But, well, Giancarlo Stanton ain't gonna hit .500 all season.

I think the Mets saved $25MM in the Nimmo for Semien deal

Stearns gamble was 3 years of Semien would be less bad than 5 of Nimmo.

Hard to look worse than Semien right now.

Yep. Even with the savings ($25MM between Nimmo and Semien), they won't be able to justify the man's golden glove if he keeps putting up an OPS+ of 14

Under Cohen, the Mets gave Robinson Cano 43 plate appearances before they cut bait. Just sayin...

Cano had $48M left on the deal when cut, versus $72M for Semien right now (and the Mets of course had saved another year of money in 2021 because of the Cano’s PED suspension).

Also Semien plays gold glove defense and Cano…did not.  Semien at age 34 had a 3.3 WAR last year despite a .669 OPS.

While the first 6 games don’t fill me with hope but the Mets aren’t going to cut bait on Semien anytime soon.

If the Mets think Semien can still be worth more than a couple wins with the glove, then his leash will be longer. I just feel like Semien's bat has been way worse than anyone thought it might be so far, and given his age and flat spring training performance, my optimism is disappearing quickly.

Looking at Semien's StatCast and comparing it to Cano's aborted 2022 season, the things saving Semien (predictably) are his glove, his speed and his eye. But when he's making contact, it's bad. Real bad. I just hope he gets right ASAP and Baty gets going just in case.
