Home opener yesterday drew 41,449.  Short of a sellout and the smallest home opener crowd since 2013.

Of course last year was a record but by way of comparison, 32 home dates last year had bigger crowds than yesterday.

They traded (or let walk) several long-term Mets (Alonso, Diaz, Nimmo, & McNeil) who were popular with the fan base.  I think some of the fan base may have a wait and see attitude regarding the newly revamped Mets roster.  If the Mets play well and win, the fans will turn out.

Final paid attendance for 2026 was 2,712,120.  Down 472k from 2025, but still the fourth highest since Citi Field opened.

Top 10 seasons at Citi Field:

2025:  3,194,580

2009: 3,168,571

2016: 2,789,602

2026: 2,712,120

2023: 2,573,555

2015: 2,569,753

2022: 2,564,737

2010: 2,559,738

2017: 2,460,622

2019: 2,442,532

The low is 2,135,657 in 2013.

I imagine a lot of the attendance this year was from prepaid sales. I went to a lot more games this year because of my ticket plan than I would have without it.

The real test will be next year’s attendance. I’ve already cancelled my plan for 2027. I’m gonna wait and see what they look like and if there’s a season before giving them any money.

Attendance is always trailing a year behind team performance, which is why bad years like 2017, 2023, and 2025 are still among the most-attended.

That 2026 (second bad year in a row) was still up there was a bit more surprising.

And why 2024 doesn't crack the top ten.

Yeah, that's a good signal for the Mets that they drew as well as they did this year.

I was hoping their fan-unfriendly ticketing policies, like the restriction and foot-dragging on single-game tix, would screw them more.

I can’t speak for anyone but me. But I renewed my ticket plan in August of 2025. At that point the Mets hadn’t missed the playoffs yet, and they hadn’t let Alonso walk, etc. I also didn’t realize SC would be in London all summer.

But for next year, no brainer not to re-up. In any case, my ticket rep was one of the worst guys in the world. Genuinely annoyed anytime I had a question. Never emailed back. And one time I called him with a time sensitive issue he was outwardly combative that he had to actually talk to someone.

2024 was also a very late-developing year with the team quite bad for a while.  Versus, say, 2022 and the hot start that year.

I got a call from a Mets salesman last week who all but offered to blow me if that's what it took.

Sorry, I took a temporary telemarketing gig and the team was offering a sweet bonus if I reached my quota.

Had I known that was you, I'd have blown you up front and then told you about the Thursday family combo package.
