As Mets by the Numbers has noted, one overlooked part of the Mets' offseason housecleaning is how many single-digit numbers were freed up, as 1, 2, 3, 6, and 9 were all sent packing. You can add the retirement of #5 in July and you can argue that a form of arithmophobia consumed the team.
