After consideration I think it’s Aaron Judge. That’s why I’m so indifferent about team USA.

Schwarber and Harper don’t help.

Vinny Pasquantino, representing his home country of [CROSSOUT]Virginia[/CROSSOUT] [CROSSOUT]Kansas City[/CROSSOUT] Italy was the hometown hero last night with 3 HRs

Trump liked the result because it means that a bunch of Mexicans will be going home. He will, of course, take the credit.

And now the knockout stage is set:

- Friday, 6:30 (FS1) from Miami: Korea vs Dominican Republic

- Friday, 8:00 (FOX) from Houston: USA vs Canada*

Winners play Sunday at 8:00 in Miami

- Saturday, 3:00 (FS1) from Houston: Puerto Rico vs Italy

- Saturday, 9:00** (FOX) from Miami: Venezuela vs Japan

Winners play Monday (FS1) 8:00 in Miami

Championship: Tuesday 8:00 (FOX) in Miami***

* the loser, as always, gets custody of Bieber

** Not an 8 PM start because FOX is televising the Big East Tournament final at 6:30 ... and even 2-1/2 hours is probably wishful thinking for that one

*** For that stadium's biggest crowd of the year

Me, too. If I hear him called “ captain America “ one more time I think I’ll hurl. 🤮

In fairness there are also one or two Canadians and Venezuelans with Italian last names.

And some guy named "Fischer," who I have to admit looks pretty Italian.

In fairness the Puerto Ricans are Americans too…

Yeah, I never got why Puerto Rico has a team.

It's not a country.

They get an Olympic Team also. It's America being (or trying to be) a cool dad.

I've written this before, but I think it would far better to have Puerto Rico one of the favorites in my 64 team Tournament of American States and Territories. That would be bigger than biscuits and gravy.

Team Italy once again jumped out to a big lead today -- in this case an 8-2 lead after 4 innings vs P.R. -- and then once again allowed the tying run to come to the plate in the 9th (with no outs) before holding on to win 8-6. Sounds a lot like the Italy/U.S. game).

And so they move, improbably, to the semi-final on Monday night against tonight's [9 PM] Venezuela/Japan winner.

Where can I find this thread? I've looked and can't see what forum it is in, I only happened on it but clicking "next unread topic"

I wish I was going to stay up for this one [JAP/VEN] cuz it's off to a rollicking start as Acuna and Ohtani trade 1st inning leadoff HRs (and bat flips). Tied 1-1 heading to the 2nd

Yamamoto vs Ranger Suarez on the hill.

Down 5-2 after 4 innings, Venezuela jumps all over the Japanese bullpen for 6 runs in 5 innings for an 8-5 win.

So it's U. S. vs D. R. (tonight 8 PM on FS1)

and

Venezuela vs Italy on (Monday, 8 PM, FOX)

I turned on the Ven/Jap game in the 8th… very stressful.

mark derosa has gotta be loving Venezuela right now. Phew!

I wish I knew that the Oscars began at 7PM rather than 8 so I could have at least seen Conan's opening and the early awards. I thought both the academy awards and the game were starting at the same time.

no...

that was... some kindof terrible call.  wow.

tap the hat.  bring on ABS.

i mean, yay, usa wins.  but on THAT strike call?  yikes.

And the tying run for the DR dies on 3rd base on a (borderline) 3-2 call and the U.S. wins a rare (or so it seems) low scoring game for this whole tourney.

On second glance: it wasn't borderline, it was low.
