metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 22 Posted January 22 The Mets are showing strong interest in LHP José Quintana, who played for the team in 2023-2024 and could be a third or fourth starter in their rotation.Other teams that have shown interest in Quintana include the Padres, Rangers, Tigers, and Rockies, among others.https://twitter.com/i/status/2014354222129562000
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 22 Posted January 22 They are going to have to move somebody, as Peralta has already expanded their rotation to six.Seven is right out.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I'm seeing similar rumors about them potentially bringing Chris Bassitt back.I don't know if these rumors stem from the Mets actually considering adding another starter, or if they're just the result of wild-ass speculation. It seems like it would leave them with too many starters, but as we've seen, there's no such thing as too many starters. The tricky thing is, what do you do with them during periods when six or seven or more of them are healthy at the same time?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 23 Posted January 23 As I see it:Your top six (assuming a six man rotation)1. Freddy Peralta2. Nolan McLean3. David Peterson4. Clay Holmes5. Sean Manaea6. Kodai Senga7. Tobias Myers (spot starter/swingman)8. Jonah Tong (AAA)9. Christian Scott (AAA)We appear to be deep, but depth gets used up pretty quickly once injuries set in. Tong may not be ready this year, so counting on him is tough. Scott is unproven, and working his way back from TJ. Yeah, I'd be cool with Jose Quintana. He could maybe work out of the pen if everyone is healthy? Other options are Holmes goes to the pen, or McLean gets sent to AAA. Not ideal, but they're options.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I'm not against giving a minor league deal to somebody capable of earning his way into the rotation, but I don't think you can justify another major league contract right now. That's not a knock against Quintana at all, but there are teams out there that would give him a clearer path to starts.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Senga's inclusion really requires a six man rotation. He can't take the ball every fifth day.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Where do you store all these extra starters?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Where do you store all these extra starters? We have a foldout couch, so that's two right there. Syracuse is nice in the summer.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Now I'm seeing rumors that the Mets are interested in trading for Luis Severino. I'm skeptical.
