Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 22 Posted January 22 In addition to Peralta, the Mets acquired Myers, a 27-year-old who relies on above-average extension and control to foil opposing hitters. Over 31 career starts and 18 relief appearances, Myers has produced a 3.15 ERA. He has five years of team control remaining and should serve in a similar swingman role with the Mets -- perhaps starting out as a reliever given New York’s plethora of rotation options. He sounds pretty good. I'm glad to see that he has major league experience, can start, and has five years of team control.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Reports I have read state that he features a riding, 92-94 mph, four seam fastball that is most effective up in the strike zone. Has a good change up that generates a lot of swing and misses. Mixes in a cutter against right handed batters. His fourth (and least used) pitch is a "big" curve. Noted to have better than average control. Experience both as a starter and reliever. Notes that his velocity ticks up to 96 mph as a reliever.Should be a nice addition to the bullpen and give depth to the rotation should the front line starters suffer injuries.Sound a lot like Tong, but with far more MLB experience.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 I like that, even if Peralta leaves after one year, this trade will at least have the potential to pay dividends for several additional years.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Sight unseen, I have more confidence in Myers than I have in Tylor Megill pitching well for the Mets this year.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Tylor Megill is going to pitch as many innings for the Mets in 2026 as I will. He's out for the year with Tommy John surgery.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I’d be rooting for you. Are you a lefty or a righty? Lol. I didn’t know he was on the IL. Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I'm glad that, having traded Truman Pauley, we still have at least one guy with a name that sounds like a public intellectual from the 1950s.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Unfortunately, his name reminds me of this guy:
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I dinna know that guy.Back in AAA in 2022, Tobias somehow managed to go 1–15 with a 7.82 ERA for three teams across three organizations. Somehow, Milwaukee saw that performance by him and thought, "That's our guy!" and signed him for 2023, and he began to turn his career around.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Of course Milwaukee liked him at the time, David Stearns was in charge and that's exactly Stearns' preferred type of pitcher.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Trolling is a gross misuse of what is left of this forum.
Bob Alpacadaca Verified Member Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Interestingly, three Milwaukee pitchers that were in the 2024 wild card deciding game are now on the Mets. Peralta and Myers were in there before Williams.I think this was a great addition. I've heard people compare him to Trevor Williams, who was a valuable part for a bit. He's long-term controllable and has a minor league option?
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted January 24 Posted January 24 It's not trolling, does one not remember the sort of pitchers Stearns signed to 'help' the team in 2025? One Freddy Peralta does not undo all the Zach Pops.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Yeah, you've made the same post a few dozen times. Whether or not it is rational, you bang the drum, hoping to get a rise. You totally are trolling and you totally know it.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Well now, Zach Pop did face 9 batters for the Mets in 2025 (one more than Luis Torres and three more than Travis Jankowski) so I can see how equating his signing with that of Freddie Peralta is a valid comparison.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Put another way, "all the Zach Pops", aka: the eight pitchers on the 2025 NYM staff who threw the fewest amount of innings (minus Torrens & Jankowski), combined to pitch less than one percent of all innings for the season. So the combined angst about how David Stearns 'done us wrong' by signing all these replacement level pitchers to all these 'catch-and-release' deals, is vastly over-blown.iow: the 8 pitchers (not including Torrens & Jankowski) at the back of the bullpen combined to throw a combined 12 innings, or less than one percent, of all innings pitched for the 2025 NYM [12 of 1,432 = 0.084%]. Otherwise known as: this is hardly a topic to worry oneself over, much one to carp about it time and time and time again.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted January 26 Posted January 26 If I was GM, I'd only ever sign All-Stars and MVPs. Every team should.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 26 Posted January 26 How boring has posting to a forum become when posters start trolling themselves?
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Did you just impugn the quality of the entertainment this forum provides? I love it here. Very entertaining.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26 Posted January 26 How boring has posting to a forum become when posters start trolling themselves? It's January, we have to invent **** to crab about. Due to the absence of baseball. Which is seemingly interminable this time of year.
