Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 They kick things off tonight in Orlando. It was a year ago today that the Mets signed Juan Soto just as the executives were arriving. Hopefully the Mets can do something this time around as well. Some thoughts. I don't feel like the market for Kyle Tucker has developed as fast as Juan Soto's. I'd be surprised if he signed during these meetings. I don't think Pete signs during the meetings either. And the Japanese sluggers will probably sign later this month. Of the big names, my guess is Bregman and Schwarber come off the board first. Maybe one or both sign during these meetings. My Mets prediction based on nothing but my pure speculation: Edwin Diaz doesn't sign during these meetings, but the Mets add one starting pitcher before the meetings conclude (either FA or trade).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Either Pete or his representation or both certainly seem to have a let-the-game-come-to-you strategy. That utterly fell through for him last season, so hopefully he is quicker to bite.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2025 Author Posted December 8, 2025 Just about a year ago, I was watching the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, on the first night of the Winter Meetings. When all of a sudden news broke that the Mets signed Juan Soto. I know it’s silly. But I’m sitting in the same spot. Checking my phone. If it happens again, we’d have two Juan Sotos.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2025 Author Posted December 8, 2025 We could call them Juan Soto and Two Soto.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 The rumor mill is off to a late start this year.In past years, there were a lot of rumors during and after the GM meeting (held a few weeks ago).Later
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2025 Author Posted December 9, 2025 Day 1 almost in the books. Next to nothing done. Alonso arrives tomorrow.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 Per Will Sammon and Tim Britton of The Athletic, the Mets are reportedly open to moving SP David Peterson to fill "other holes". I hope that means that they are confident they will either sign another FA starter or that one of the kids is ready to replace him in the rotation .Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 Don Mattingly is teed up to become bench coach of the Phillies. His son, Preston, is currently the Phillies GM and will now be his boss.He left the same role in Toronto perhaps thinking another managerial opportunity would be in the cards after the Blue Jays pennant, so perhaps he let that play out before joining the Phils as his safe school.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 The 2026 draft lottery was held yesterday. I looks like the Mets won’t have a first round pick. Who did they sign which forfeited that pick? Also the rule 5 draft is this afternoon. The 40 man roster is full do there is no room to make a pick. Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 Juan Soto, I assume.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 Things happen in threes. First DíazThen Alonso. What’s next? Some sheik buying Mrs. Met for his harem? Stay tuned. Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 I am not sure what qualifies as a "thing," but Brandon Nimmo was offloaded before either of them got signed.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 Robert Suarez to the Braves. I thought he might have been one of the Plan B options for Diaz, but I guess not.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 Robert Suarez to the Braves. I thought he might have been one of the Plan B options for Diaz, but I guess not. That's one day after they signed OF Mike Yastrzemski.Later
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 For as good as the Mets Winter meeting was last year, this year's Winter Meeting was an absolute disaster. Stearns will have to work some major miracles for the Mets to improve upon last season's disappointing failure.
