The Mets are sending infield prospect Jesus Baez and two pitching prospects, Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt, to St. Louis to complete the deal.

All three played A level ball this year, splitting time between Brooklyn and St Lucie.

Baez has been in the organization for about three years and the two pitchers were drafted in 2024.

Baez has been a sub .250 hitter for most of his minor league career, while the two pitchers have decent K/IP totals.

It appears the Mets bullpen should be pretty settled once this deal is finalized. No if we could get a few starting pitchers, other than Peterson, to successfully pitch more than 5 innings during their starts.

I would love a CF that can hit, but I'm not holding my breath.

This really must have been last minute. Baez was in the game , had walked, and was pulled for a pinch runner.

I hate the Cardinals and pay no attention to them. Is this palooka any good. Any schmo can be a closer after all

He’s good. This is his 4th excellent year in a row. From the Athletic:

“Helsley had posted a 3.00 ERA over 36 games (21 saves), with 41 strikeouts in 36 innings.

Helsley’s fastball ranks in the 99th percentile in average velocity (99.3 miles per hour). Both his chase rate and whiff rates are over 30 percent and he’s struck out roughly a quarter of his total batters faced this year.”

Ryan Dalton Helsley: 31 y/o (two weeks ago); R/R; 6'2"/235

Been with the Cards org his entire BB life, drafted in 2015/5th round out of Northeastern State U (Tahlequah, OK)

5+ year player so eligible for FA this winter.

Got good starting in 2022. His combined stats from '22-'25 = 2.03 ERA; 1.03 WHIP; 6.0 H/9; 3.3 BB/9 (meh); 11.8 K/9; 0.6 HR/9 (14 in 204 IP)

But a bit less good this season: 3.00 ERA / 1.39 WHIP!! mostly on account of a pretty bad month of June [8G, 8 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 2 HR]. Better since.

3 A-Ball guys for Helsley I can certainly get behind. Yeah, bullpen solidified. Be nice if their starters could go more than 5 innings so these guys don't have to pitch every single night.

Throws 99+ and has a "wipeout" slider that I read the opposition is hitting under .100 against this year. They are getting to his fastball more this year though. Had 48 saves last season, so he is accustomed to high leverage situations.
