Guy Conti (1942-2026) (split from "Baseball passings 2026")

I think we mean Guy Conti, and as a Mets figure, he deserves his own thread.

He was also the shizz.  Gave Bubba a baseball for his kids when Bubbs and I attended a thrilling game at RFK Memorial Stadium, as the Mets held off their 2007 slide down the stretch for one more day.  It might have been Jorge Sosa's finest hour.

Just a great, square-shouldered, rah-rah, making-time-for-the-kids kind of baseball guy.

Had a special connection with Pedro Martinez, having first scouted him in the Dominican Republic as a teenager and was his rookie-ball pitching coach in Great Falls, Montana.  Credited by Pedro for helping him perfect his changeup and helping him learn English.

"We lost a good one today. Guy Conti our former bullpen coach and special adviser passed away after a lengthy illness. Guy was a friend of Sandy Koufax and beloved by Pedro Martínez. No one had more stories than Guy. His knowledge reached people for decades. Miss you my friend."

After his coaching tenure with the Mets ended, he stayed on as a special advisor.

Here he is holding court with a couple of otherwise-forgotten Mets players:
