Between Alonso and Crow Armstrong it’s been all pain for Mets fans. Whatever Cohen dreamed his regime would be, it’s been the opposite.

They also won 101 games in 2022 and then made the NLCS in 2024?  When a once-in-generation-talent hit free agency the Mets had the financial wherewithal to make him a Met?

Obviously this season is an abysmal failure and followed a disappointing 2025 but 2 good years out of 6 is still a much higher ratio than any of us have been used to.

The team has had massive increases in payroll; supposedly they have made big investments to upgrade scouting, development, and analysis; there’s been a concerted effort to embrace players’ families to make the Mets a desired destination; and the giant scoreboard is the single most important upgrade to the ballpark experience in the 17 seasons the place has been open.

Sure, a lot has gone wrong.  Maybe hiring Steaens will turn out to be a horrible misstep by Cohen (if this isn’t the nadir of his tenure, we’re in trouble).  But overall the long-term outlook is still trending positive.

Being closing in on 84 years old not sure long term outlook does much for me. My feeling about  our owner is that he's spent big on this team but he's hired poorly it would seem. Frankly I'm optimistic only in that we have the core of a good team and young talent that have impressed. Not sure how much credit I'm willing to give Stearns for that as the record of his tenure thus far is bad.

Letting Alonso walk was a massive failure that anyone could have seen coming. Sure he may not be worth the $$ by the end but was basically the most accomplished slugger the franchise ever had, popular with fans and the press, author of the biggest home run in team history, part of winning teams. You had to know the fans would be alienated by this and the "replacement" was completely inadequate.

I'm totally happy Alonso humiliated Steams the way he did.
