David Peterson tries to claim the day against Zack Wheeler.

Wheeler and Peterson were never teammates, but Zack did play on the Mets with Tim Peterson.  And while he has never shared a Mets roster with Brooks Raley, he has with Brooks Pounders, for that matter.

Wheels has been gone a while.  The last two Mets to play with him were Edwin Diaz and Jeff Mc#$%@!  And they too now punch the clock elsewhere.

Sure. The pitching matchup sucks again. But once in a while a shitty pitcher figures it out for a day. Balls find gloves. And some bloopers fall in for the offense. 
 

That could happen today. And if that happens 11 more times in a row then we could find ourselves right back in the thick of things.

John Franco and John Kruk will be the color commentators tonight.

I haven't been watching this new NBC version of Sunday Night Baseball (mainly because it's been mostly on their PEACOCK channel) so I don't know if, instead of using a fixed team of announcers, they've been using a rotating stable of 'locals' like this for each game or not. Seems like an odd move if they have but I guess they figure it keeps the fans of the two scheduled teams a reason to tune in and keep the paranoids from claiming 'Bias!!' each time they don't like what some color guy just said.

When did John Franco get a network job?

I heard him filling in on the Mets radio broadcast five years ago or so, and he seemed like a nice guy and all but almost completely disengaged, and unfamiliar with the players and changes that had come to baseball since his retirement.

I noticed Peterson won his 40th career game as a Met this year. He's in fairly exclusive company among Mets pitchers with that total, as less than 30 hurlers in team history have 40+ wins. He's currently tied with Dillon Gee for 28th-most victories as a Met.

Schwarber is going to give the Hall of Fame voters to think about if he keeps going and hits 500+ home runs with a career average under .240. Players like him have a knack for just collapsing, but clearly he's not to that point yet.

It's great that, after a month+ of building up his batting average, with base hits deposited in front of the outfielders, Carson Benge is finding his power stroke.

Considering Baty, Alvarez and Vientos are all terrible, Tong is lost, McLean struggled, and our “successes” have an OPS in the low .700s I’d say player development is one of the biggest failures of 2026.

Wheeler's getting gray hairs in his beard. Of course I had gray creeping into my beard at a similar age too. The difference is, I was no longer getting big league hitters out by that point.
