The broadcasters made comment on this too, saying Mendoza much prefers to use him at the start of an inning. I don't recall the reasoning they cited though.

That popup was a fun play. Swanson is upside down in the crowd, and it looks like he just poops the ball out to Shaw to continue the play.

And the Cubs manager called for a review, claiming that he didn't fall into the stands. That was peculiar.

I thought maybe the challenge was that he threw the ball in before falling into the stands. Which was also clearly not the case.

I recall the umpire saying that the call was upheld because the fielder fell into the stands. My take was the Counsell didn't understand the rule about the runners advancing automatically and that, somehow, was the basis of the challenge. I wasn't at all aware of that rule (but then again, I'm not a major league manager) and I was impressed that Gary Cohen immediately understood what was happening.
