Super important series. With the DBacks and Giants playing, the Mets have to win a minimum of 2 games to not lose ground.



Tonight is the toughest pitching matchup of the series. Would be great to steal one.

Multiple sources have reported that the Mets intend to use Manaea to piggyback with Holmes tonight. And, that on Sunday against Washington, it will be Manaea starting with Holmes as the piggyback.

I wonder how that's going to work? Does Holmes get four innings and he's out, no matter how well he's doing? Or does Manaea come in whenever Holmes starts to falter, whether in the third or the sixth?

I'm guessing they're hoping for 5-4. Holmes starts the fifth, and Manaea is already warming up in case he has to come in earlier.

This is Michael King's third start back since 5/13



He has thrown 65 pitches in his last start and 57 in the one prior for a total of 7IP 7H 3W 3K 4ER



Holmes last left in the fourth inning in his last two starts throwing 75 and 85 pitches



King is likely still in a pitch count



Holmes' goal may be to keep things in order for the first or second time through the order and hopefully Manaea gets the third time around



That's what Mendoza should be doing tonight anyway

Holmes seems to be on an unofficial 75-pitches, 5 inning limit. So Manaea knows he needs to be ready around that time — and earlier if Holmes' pitch count is up.



If Holmes struggles suddenly, then they might use a short reliever (a Garrett or Stanek) to give Manaea enough time to warm up.

So this is Michael King, a former Yanqui reliever turned starter, vs Clay Holmes, a former Yanqui reliever turned starter.

Also, King was part of the package the Yanx sent to SD for Juan Soto
