ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Torrens is hurt so we're stuck with Alvarez How about a clubhouse fine for chasing like that. He's been doing it every day
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 This is a bad loss. Pitching matchups are woes the next three days. Things could get ugly quick.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Mauricio hesitated slightly as he looked toward RF to see if that ball had a chance of being caught. Once he did that there was no way he was scoring as the ball was back to the cut-off man behind 1st base before he reached 3rd base. The ball simply got to the (short) wall too quickly. He would have been out by 60 feet had they sent him and probably still about 30 ft even without the hesitation. Even if there were two outs that would have been a terrible send. With one out it would have been criminal.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 How about with Acuna running top speed? Still dead out?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 You'd have to guesstimate where he'd be when the relay throw is received compared to where Mauricio actually was. 3B coach put up the stop sign when Mauricio was still five strides from 3rd. So IF Acuna were the runner and IF he breaks immediately without hesitation then ... maybe, but I still doubt it. You might send him with two outs and hope for a break but have to be more cautious with fewer than two. Acuna's faster than Mauricio but the gap isn't exactly Billy Hamilton vs a relay of Molina brothers. So he's probably rounded 3rd when the cutoff man gets the ball but not by much is my guess making it a 65-70ft run vs a 120-ish ft throw. Not good odds.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 The play was in front of us. Mauricio would have been out if he tried. But man, all they needed was a sac fly. Alvarez was swinging for the fences on every pitch all night. Hard to watch.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 That was a brutal at bat from Alvarez, Duran is tough customer but still
