Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Nats have three hits (and 3 RBI) in five ABs vs Rogers,The Mets have had 18 ABs vs the Nats pen (one of the worst in MLB) over two games and have one walk and 5-2/3 scoreless to show for it.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Author Posted August 21, 2025 The Mets can change the narrative with a rare late game comeback
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Author Posted August 21, 2025 They could use Mauricio today
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Mets now have 2 BBs in 24 plate appearances agains the worst in the NL bullpen.Just none of those hit things that I hear about other teams getting late in games against inferior pitching.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 In the new realignment, they can rename them the New York Heimlich's because they keep choking.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Mets get another chance to face a ninth inning with Mullins and the catcher (this time Senger) due up.With Mauricio the only obvious pinch-hitting option.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Nats get a meaningless insurance run. One run is enough to beat this team. They have more runs off our pen in the last three innings than we have baserunners off theirs across two games.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Well, it is kind of beyond the reach of a pinch-hitter now. (Unless he maybe comes up twice.)
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Good lord, getting spanked by the Nationals....
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Author Posted August 21, 2025 I don't think Stearns fully understands that he is in charge of a big market team. The starting pitching performed over its head for a long stretch and it regressed, and then some

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 This is the first time I've really thought that this team is not making the playoffs. What an embarrassment. A complete failure by the organization. Top to bottom.
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 He understood it when he signed Soto. All the reliever injuries - AJ Minter, Max Krannick, Nunez - just took their toll and none of the scrap heap guys caught lightning.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 No more fitting way to end this disaster than a Soto KI believe that's his 32nd in the last 3 games.

Those loose bodies must be affecting him more than he lets on. Something is up with Senga since the hamstring. Either he's hurt or just not right, but this is not the pitcher we've seen for a year and a half. Clay Holmes is out of gas. David Peterson has been largely good. Frankie Montas was a disaster from the get go.BullpenThe injured guys you mentioned were a big blow. Stanek has been awful, but seems to have 9 lives. And even the guys we acquired at the deadline haven't been as good as we had hoped. LineupSoto's having a good year overall, but can't drive in any runs. Lindor is having a down year, Vientos is awful. None of the young guys panned out. Mullins has been as bad as Taylor. Alvarez was bad, then got good, then got hurt. You mentioned that none of the scrap heap relievers caught lightning. You can say that about this whole team. None of the question marks turned into answers. Across the board, everyone is failing. That's an organizational failure. This team is going nowhere. You might as well use the rest of this year as a tryout, and maybe something will spark. Let McLean finish the season. Call up Sproat and give him a spot. DFA Stanek. Play Baty, Vientos and Mauricio every day. Let's see how they finish so we can get an idea for 2026. If you don't want to play Jeff in CF, call up Jett and see if he can provide a spark. DFA Mullins or Taylor.Let Megill finish the season in the rotation once he's ready. Let's see if he can take a positive step. Put Holmes on the IL. If they somehow manage to make the playoffs, you can activate him as a reliever in September. You have to shake things up. This team, as constructed, is going nowhere.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 And most importantly, they need to figure out why the offense sucks year after year, with the exception of 4 months in 2024.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 The odd thing is that their performance is kind of the opposite of 2024. They went from starting poorly and peaking later to starting strong and crashing later.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Sprout? Sure. We can try him. AWESOME!!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 I didn't watch and didn't care.I chose to go to a Syracuse Mets game instead. We left in the 6th with them down 15-0.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2025 Author Posted August 22, 2025 Today CBS baseball's lead headline is "Mets and Reds in two horse race for NL wildcard"Pretty much, I'm not saying the Mets can't catch the Phillies but that seems like a longshot today
