- Wheeler (8 IP, 6 hits, 10 Ks) and pen shut out the Padres 4-0

Phils now 11-6 in their last 17 though end June at just 14-13, totally the opposite of the Mets who started the month 9-2 and finished 12-15

- Braves were off today, start a series tomorrow at home vs Angels

- Jays score 4 in the 6th to come back on the Yanx 5-4

Looks like the Rays are going to go down to that team in West Sacramento so the Yanx will have teams 1/5 & 2.0 games behind them as business opens tomorrow.

It'll be a day game in Toronto on Tuesday (3:00) on account of 7/1 being Canada Day

Andres Gimenez and George Springer are All-Canadian heroes today.

Down 2-0 in the 4th to Max Fried, the Jays got a solo HR from Springer then added a Gimenez 3R HR to take a 4-2 lead.

Yanx re-tie things at 4-4, you say? Hey, no problem, just dial up a 7th inning GS from cousin George to make it 9-4.

[CROSSOUT]Still 10-4[/CROSSOUT] ... [CROSSOUT]now 10-4[/CROSSOUT] now 12-4 and counting (3+ hour game so far) as the Jays bat w/2 out in bottom 8.

Springer = 7 RBI on the game

The Yanx, btw, have the worst record in the AL East since May 28. Not by a lot, but they have lost ground to every team over the past five weeks.

Tigers @ Nats, Padres @ Phils both washed out tonight, and LAA @ Braves is delayed - so it's a whole east coast thing although Cincy @ Boston has at least started their game.

Chris Sale (broken ribs) has been transferred to the 60-day IL so the Braves are looking towards late August at best before he takes the mound again.

Joey from Brooklyn says he was in court all day, so it wasn't him.

After holding the Mets to four runs in the recent three game series, the Pirates toss three consecutive shutouts against the (previously hot) Cardinals.

Their RS/RA over their last six games is 43 - 4

The Phillies fell behind 5-0 early. Fought back to claw within 6-4. They had the tying runs in scoring position and Kyle Schwarber at the plate. They still lost, but showed some toughness and fought back.

Think of the last time the Mets did anything close to this.

Like every game during this stretch, the Mets respond to falling behind by falling further behind.

The Mets turned their season around last year after they retired Darryl Strawberry's number. (Look it up!) Maybe seeing David Wright get his honor will have the same effect this year. It's a straw to grasp at, I suppose.

With a tie for 1st place in the offing, the Jays put up an 7-spot on the Yanx in the bottom of the 1st and have tacked on an 8th run in the 3rd. 8-zip, bottom 4.

Yanqui starter Will Warren is still in the game. Andres Gimenez continues to shine for Toronto with 3 hits in the first 3 innings.

Plus, Tampa already won their game this afternoon which, barring a Canadian Catastrophe, would put them just 1/2 game in back of a NYY/TOR deadlock.

And not too far in back of them, the BoSox won their (suspended from yesterday) afternoon game vs Cincy and have a 1-0 lead in the nightcap which means they could gain a game-and-a-half on 1st place and be just 5 out. So only Baltimore is currently out of the AL East picture.

Final score: Jays 11 - Yanx 9

TOR: 48 - 38

NYY: 48 - 38

TBR: 48 - 39

oe: just realized that this is a Four Game Series with the finale tomorrow night.

Big game on Thursday needless to say as the Jays go for the rare four-game sweep.

Quickly switched over to the Yanx/Jays game with the Jays up 6-5 bottom 8th

Or at least they were until Toronto got a 2-out single followed by a 2R HR by George Springer who has absolutely been killing the Yanx all series (4 HRs, 11 RBI).

So now they need to close out an 8-5 lead in the 9th for a four game sweep and sole possession of 1st in the AL East

Rizzo is the bigger WOW!! of that duo.

He snagged them some good talent in the Scherzer & Soto trades and also via the draft.

And while they're not good now, there are some pieces there to build around.
