Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 Joe is correct, and another one the Mets let go too quickly.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 Preferably not in one post. One per person, per post.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Posted April 28, 2025 Charlie. a/k/a Charley.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 Dominic is correct. They wasted a roster spot on that guy for six years.Charley is correct. He walked just 17 times in 531 PAs in 1965.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 Dick Smith is correct. A dicksmith is someone who crafts dildoes at the dildo factory.

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Posted April 28, 2025 1962 Met Bob Smith. Wearing, I believe, his Mets uniform in a baseball card that identified him as being on the Redbirds.

Wearing, I believe, his Mets uniform in a baseball card that identified him as being on the Redbirds. This post is scaring me. I'm fairly certain that I could name the entire '62 squad easily. But I have no idea who this is. Am I developing amnesia?..Oh wait. That baseball card. You changed the post. That's Bobby Gene Smith.Infielder. I thought you wrote "pitcher".
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 Bobby Smith. He was part of the trade chain that eventually got the Mets Don Cardwell.

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 Drew Smith is correct. He's a link to what is quickly becoming the Mets of yore, as he is what they got in return for Lucas Duda...almost 10 years ago. Equally astounding is the Mets see enough value in Drew Smith to keep him around for nearly a decade, despite the zillions of other options out there at any given moment. Especially considering he's never really done much or had a real breakout with them, as he's averaged barely more than 30 appearances per year. He'll have that breakout by year 15, I swear!
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Posted April 28, 2025 I've got Lonnie on the brain, but sadly in nearly 20 yearshe never donned the orange and blue....
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 The last one is in fact the one I thought would be the hardest to guess.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Posted April 28, 2025 (edited) Pete Smithtechically -- It was Bobby Gene Smith, or B.G. Smith, not Bob Smith or Bobby Smith Edited April 28, 2025 by Guest
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2025 Author Posted April 28, 2025 Pete it is. One of the most inconsequential 11-year veterans of relatively recent memory I can think of.I used to know him as Bobby Gene, myself, but Baseball Reference now just calls him Bobby.
