Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 32 years old next month. He had by far his best season last season in San Diego. (.280/.380/.459 with 24 homers.) Has also played for the Rockies, A's, and Rangers. He hit a three-run homer of Max Scherzer at Citi Field in Game One of the 2022 Wild Card Series. He's played 549 big-league games in the outfield, mostly in left field. Plus 219 games at second base, 104 at shortstop, 89 at third base and 72 at first. He's represented, like seemingly everyone else, by Boras. His nickname is "El Patron".
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 A good year last year - his other decent years were 5 and 6 years ago.I don't prefer Profar.PassOE: I preferred Santander, but he just signed with Tarana'.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 Utility infielder is the only place we don't currently already have a guy without options holding the fort.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 If they opt for Profar it means the end of OMG, yes?
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 A one-year wonder who was a terrible disappoint in the whole decade leading up to that single year.A former #1 rated prospect who, by and large, has been a total dud relative to what was expected of him.Stay away.

(I don't expect Vientos or Alvarez to lose their jobs, but they should still have options, yes?)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 I believe Vientos has burned his last option. Álvarez is indeed demotable, but even should that come to pass, the current minor conflict of seven outfielders without options is still unchanged.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 I only count 6: Nimmo, Siri, Soto, Taylor, Winker, Marte. It does rankle me a bit that the team only found room to carry one backup infielder last year and is headed there again. I remain hopeful though that without a DH who cannot play in the field (see, e.g., Martinez, Vogelbach) they can use the DH slot as occasional “rest” for the infielders as well.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 This is just a leverage ploy against Boras regarding Bregman/Alonso, I would venture to guess.Profar is a former Boras client who bounced to other representation last year. Not sure if that matters but it seems like it might here.
