Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Yeah. I think that kinda the point of this thread. Look at the idiots we've had as GM of this team. It's a wonder we ever won.Earlier this year David Stearns was asked if he was looking to fill the GM role. His answer was something like "not really. I'm good with the leadership we have in place."I don't blame him.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Yeah, and frankly, I don't see what a GM would do, other then run out to pick up David Stearns' lunch orders.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Jared Porter emerges to explain his shadow."It was an inappropriate relationship for a lot of reasons,” Porter said while appearing on the podcast “Baseball Isn't Boring.”“I put myself in that situation,” he continued. “I made the decision to send the text message that I sent. And I certainly shouldn't have done it.”Porter sent the texts to a journalist in 2016, when he worked for the Chicago Cubs. According to ESPN's initial report, after a brief exchange, the texts from Porter included lewd and explicit photos even as they went unanswered for weeks. In total, Porter sent 62 messages between answers over three weeks before the journalist requested him to stop. She ultimately left journalism, in part because of the harassment. After he was fired, Porter said he went to an inpatient center in a behavioral healthcare facility in Arizona called The Meadows for a week. He then transferred to an outpatient center and went there five days a week for eight weeks. He said he lacked awareness and didn't have boundaries. Porter said, “It took a major incident like this to kind of wake me up.” Porter said that he still sees a therapist and has attended mental wellness retreat centers with his wife.Porter's tenure with the Mets lasted just 37 days. With so much business conducted over video calls due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, Porter said he never saw his office at Citi Field or even met Mets owner Steve Cohen in person.“They had to make the best decision for the New York Mets when the article came out, and I knew they would,” Porter said. “I hold zero ill will toward them whatsoever. I do think they made the best decision for the Mets. It's unfortunate that I put myself and put them in that situation.”https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5955717/2024/11/29/mets-jared-porter-inappropriate-messages-comments/https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5955717/2024/11/29/mets-jared-porter-inappropriate-messages-comments/
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 I guess the Grant/McDonald regime is the easiest answer.I don't really have a feel for how Porter or Scott did their jobs or could have done them given some time, but I wasn't particularly keen on either firing. Both were guilty of indiscretions that seemed like more of a suspension offense.

Porter's firing was absolutely necessary. The Mets shouidn't have someone who's engaged in that conduct (and he admitted to it; it wasn't just an allegation) in the GM role.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Of course he admitted it. I certainly wouldn't suggest it didn't happen.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Scott was acquitted of the DWI charge, hence the distinction. If you were arguing that Scott's conduct required only a suspension and not a firing, I disagree—but not in the same way as I do regarding Porter.
