GPS57 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 When MLB radically altered its schedule, resulting in the Mets now playing all American League teams each season, I honestly thought that would virtually eliminate the biggest inequity of interleague play, which always had the Mets having to face the Yankees more times (usually double) than any other team in the National League. However, according to the 2025 schedule, the Mets will play 14 A.L. teams three games each. The one exception? They will play the Yankees SIX times. I am so disgusted with MLB's obsession with "natural geographic rivals". The Yankees are the 2024 A.L. champions, and the Mets will have to face them TWICE as many games than every other N.L. team. Those extra three games could easily be the difference between a first round playoff bye, or for that matter not making the playoffs at all. No other sport does this. And for what? Added attendance??

GPS57 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2024 Author Posted October 25, 2024 Yeah that's right, they won all four games vs. the Yankees, who are in the World Series and the Mets are not. You literally missed my point. It's about schedule integrity. All-time, the Mets have a 67 - 84 record against the Yankees. Except for a handful of seasons, the Yankees won the regular season Subway Series. The Mets should not have to play them twice as many games as all other National League teams. Again, no other sport does this with their schedule. The Jets and Giants only play each other once every four years. It also makes the wild card even more unfair, since it compares teams from different divisions that play the teams in their own division 13 times per year, and plays at most 7 games against the teams from the other divisions in their league.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 It is wrong and should be fixed. We can all agree on that. But like all awful MLB decisions, it's money-driven.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 From a Sports TV Discord:"[N]ow we know why the Mets-Astros off day after opening day was filled in with a game - SNY crew confirmed that March 28 game is on Apple. And they said they won't be calling any Dodgers-Mets games in New York, so unlike last year's Friday's Dodgers-Yankees game with FOX and ESPN games to follow, that May 23 game is Apple exclusive."
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 Moving a game in Houston to Friday sets up the very odd situation of a scheduled Sunday off day during the regular season. Not sure the last time that's happened but it's been quite a while I believe.
