smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 A wrist fracture. If we see him again this year, it will deep in the playoffs. So let's hope we see him this year. It's a shame, given that he had mostly righted the ship since the ASB. The silver lining is that I have full confidence in Iglesias. And I guess we see Luisangel Acuña?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Acuna is the only infielder on the 40-man in the minors…so, yes, it would most likely be him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Yes, but Reyes is already on the roster, so the question is who gets added. The Mets, somehow, have had a spectacular run of health with their offense, and have gotten away with carrying only five infielders for months. They finally get the safety of a sixth and one goes down.Apart from calling on Acuña, they could return to living dangerously with only one backup infielder, and instead bring back DJ Stewart. Noted elsewhere is the presence of Travis Blankenhorn, DFA'd by the Nats and possibly already waived.Rylan Bannon has very little outfield experience but what he's got is from this season, but unlike Blankenhorn, he bats righty (which, or course, is true of most infielders). What we really need is a sudden fit of health from either Brett Baty or Ronny Mauricio, but that would take magic.I don't suppose the Diamondbacks would be willing to part with Luis Guillorme.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 I hope slugging superstar Luke Ritter, a multipositional talent, gets called up to replace him.McNeil was a .253 hitter since August. Not really gonna miss him.Lot of players on this show "passion." McNeil more frequently shows "petulance."
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Rylan Bannon was traded to the Twins last month for cash considerations
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Yeah, I've been confllating Bannon and Ritter for a while.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 It's a pretty rough break. It was a curveball. He was squared to bunt, which would seemingly allow his feet to dance out of the way. And he was hit pretty squarely on a protective pad. Not a very good recipe for a fracture. He should sue the pad manufacturer. We all should.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Still no news this morning on a McNibbles replacement.I'm happy to see a deliberate collaborative decision-making process on a key action. I was thinking that there was no reason that they can't add Acuña for a day or two while they figure things out, but that may force them to carry Acuña on the post-season roster instead of whoever else they grab.Whoever it is, they'll have to work through a loophole to keep him active for the post-season.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 DJ Stewart has been recalled to replace Jeff McNeil.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Curious to see where Jeff's Mets career goes from here
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 We attended the Syracuse Mets game Saturday night (it was a blowout, they were down 6-0 in the 2nd and 10-0 when we left in the 8th, ultimately losing 19-0!). Interestingly Acuna was playing 2B.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I agree with that. I don't think the Mets will look to unload him for the sake of unloading him, but it's certainly possible that he could be included in a trade at some point.
