smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 There are a couple of things that make it hard to compare the 62 Mets to these White Sox. The Mets were an expansion team where everybody was either too young or too old to be in their prime, playing for a fan base that was thrilled to have a National League team again. The White Sox play in an era where big market teams can always afford to be at least adequate, and somehow they had half the necessary win total to be defined as adequate. It's just not fathomable.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Yeah the White Sox are the biggest stain on the game however you look at it. Between them and the A's, really embarrassing year for baseball, even with the all the Ohtani stuff.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 It should come as no surprise that owner Jerry Reinsdorf (88 yrs old) is thinking of selling the team:https://www.yahoo.com/sports/white-sox-owner-jerry-reinsdorf-reportedly-in-discussions-about-selling-team-after-historically-bad-season-214446200.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/sports/white-sox-owner-jerry-reinsdorf-reportedly-in-discussions-about-selling-team-after-historically-bad-season-214446200.htmlHe's no Joan Payson who didn't let a little thing like a loss record make her think of selling.Later
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 Fewer owners like Reinsdorf is a good thing. So long as he's not replaced by someone worse.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 "His Venability was off the charts!" Jerry Reinsdorf
