Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I love the introductions -- but it was better when the players wore their regular uniforms! That said, the National League's uniforms look better than the American League versions.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 The thing with the kids and cowboy hats is a little goofy. The rope trick guys, too.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Cody Johnson seems sober. That's an improvement over last night.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Nice! Nolan Ryan, Fergie Jenkins, Pudge Rogriguez, and Adrian Beltre with the first pitch.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 And the NL squanders its first scoring opportunity. Nice double by Harper -- surprisingly appearing in his first All-Star Game as a Phillie.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Cool stat: Paul Skenes is the youngest pitcher to start since ... Doc Gooden. And Skenes allows a walk and then gets Judge to hit into a force out!
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Tarik Skubal gets a one-two-three inning. Kind of cool that the home plate umpire is wearing the mic.

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Profar ripped that one - and it bounces right to Soto to hold him to a single.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Ohtani hits a BOMB to give the NL a three-run lead! For once I'm glad he's in the NL.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 And Logan Webb gives it right back.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Hard to watch Teoscar Hernandez strike out with a runner on, and not want to retroactively throw some Nimmo in there.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Imanaga's cap is odd. Seems like the other team has the regular team cap logo, but Imanaga's has the Cubs jersey logo instead of the C cap logo.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Mason Miller from Oakland, I don't know any of his pitches were below 100 mph!
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Tommy Greene of the Reds is not fooling anyone. After two near misses, he gives up a two-run bomb and the AL takes a 5-3 lead.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Freddie Freaking Freeman in the game at first. I think if Pete gets in, it's going to be as a pinch-hitter.

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 Pete gets an at-bat!And he strikes out. But it was good to see him get in there.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 American League wins 5-3. Boo. All the NL scoring on one swing. I love the All-Star Game. This was a decent one despite the score.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I haven't watched an All-Star Game since, I think, 1992. But I saw some photos from the game and those uniforms are ridiculous. I can't imagine that enough people buy them to make it worth killing the tradition of players wearing their own uniforms.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 And now we play the waiting game. I miss the days when the 2nd half resumed on the Thursday after the game, at least for some of the teams.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 And there are no minor league games above Dominican Summer League and Florida Complex League scheduled for today, either.UPCOMING SCHEDULE – JULY 19-21Triple-A Syracuse: vs. RochesterDouble-A Binghamton: vs. ErieHigh-A Brooklyn: vs. Jersey ShoreLow-A St. Lucie: @ JupiterLater
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Those uniforms were something I can never unsee. Just atrocious. My company softball team has better uniforms.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I watched for ten minutes around nine. It's kinda funny how little it'sall become to me because when I was a kid the all-star game was likeseeing the who, zep and stones on the same night. Those unis were really bad, and the caps out-did the fugliness...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Yeah, when I was a kid the All-Star game was a big deal. The stars seemed bigger then. It was fun to be able to root for, rather than against, guys like Stargell and Bench and McCovey. I know there are many good players today, but I'm much less familiar with them.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Gone are the days when a Mike Piazza and Johnny Damon were on the field air drumming to a rock band ( I forget who) Damon may even have sang with the band , anyway the cringe factor was high
