Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Well, the Mets ninth-inning job is currently being listed at linkedin.Diekman sort of was set up, sending him against righties, but he didn't come in to anybody.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Author Posted June 2, 2024 Anyone happen to hear when the Mets last hit back to back triples? I imagine it's kinda rare.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 It feels like Edwin Diaz may have as well gone to Brazil uncertain to return

Whatever do you mean?I love it too, but it's a tragic song, and they played a chorus of it every time Luis Guillorme came up, and it certainly didn't deliver the sort of energy that sustains a rally.Sort of like when they play "Piano Man" in the eighth-inning. A lot of people love that song, almost certainly moreso in Mets territory. I don't judge them, but a story of middle-aged people watching their lives slip away is no way to trigger the energy to produce late-inning fireworks.Yeah piano man is depressing but also rousing
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Brutal. Had the radio call on XM as I puttered around my yard and house doing chores. As soon as the lead was blown I turned it off.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 This has such a Wilponion feel to it all , first year manager , 17 games out on June 2nd , brutal to watch
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Mendoza didn't use his long man despite losing his starting pitcher after four. He pulled Dedniel Nuñez while he had three pitches working and had fanned three guys in a row. Then he sent a lefty out to save it going up against a star switch-hitter whose OPS is a crushing .270 points better against lefties.I know there's a reason guys do these things, and I know there are constraints he's probably working within, but I'm flummoxed. From the outside, it looks like "How can I blow this?"
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Makes me wonder what Gibbons is saying to him, if anything
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 If you keep looking for the reliever who might not have it that day you're bound to find one sooner or later. The previous three had all done quite nicely. The good news from the offense is that today it was them bunching their hits with two outs for multiple runs. The bad news is that they had no hits in the two innings prior to that and just one in the six subsequent frames. In fact, DJ Stewart's (rather soft) single was the only ball they got out of the infield!!! after JD's triple in the 3rd.3rd: DJ's K w/JD on 3rd4th: BB, IF PO, GiDP5th: GO, GO, K6th: GO, K, 1B, K7th: GO, GO, GO8th: K, K, K9th: IF PO, K, Foul IF PO

Another solid principle is that the reliever who was lights out in the seventh inning can, just the same, stink up the joint in the eighth inning if he's left in the game. Nobody here knows a fraction of what the team knows and anything can happen no matter what. Not that it isn't a lot of fun to second guess after the fact with hindsight. But if this was an exact science, they would've figured out by now how to get nine scoreless innings from the staff every game. But then the other team would've figured out the same stuff and in the end, no team would ever score.I didn't see anybody complaining about Mendoza using four different relievers to get through the four innings comprising innings number five through eight.
