Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 I could see the big N Y C logo making these popular with non-NYM and even non-baseball fans. And if that happens and they start to be seen on the streets I wonder if the Yanx will drop their separatist mindset in order to grab a slice of the pie. I mean having the official hat of fat Americanoverseas tourists and domestic perp walks can only take you so far.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 ESPN grades all the City Connect unis that have debuted to date and gives the Mets an "]They forgot to attach a small parachute to the top of the caps to symbolize the guy that parachuted into Shea for game 6 of the '86 WS. And they could've also stapled large metal blue or orange corrugated shingles to the back of the shirt to represent, I mean symbolize, the blue and orange corrugated shingles that decorated the Shea exterior. How symbolic would that be? I would've Iiked to see the logos of the many, many newspapers that existed in NYC during the 60s.That would symbolize the NYC press. It covered the Mets. I would've also embroidered Willard Mullin's famous signature on the inside of the shirt. That'd be a secret symbol. Like the Easter eggs that get snuck onto a DVD.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 The bridge is a lot more defined as it appears on the helmet, although it's kind of odd how the image stops over the players' temples, cutting off the ends of the bridge.I would have voted against the Queensboro/59th Street/Ed Koch Bridge, and instead lobbied for the Whitestone Bridge (closer to the Mets home), or even more for the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge (connects Brooklyn to Queens and connects the Mets to the world).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 It certainly increases the size of the name-on-back.And I'm sure the purple dot on top of the helmet makes Centerfield swoon.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Did the Mets do an alternate version of the skyline logo to match the theme? Or is that the purpose the subway token element serves?
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 I think the token fills that space.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Tigers announced theirs today. You'll never guess-- its black --with a blue tire track on the front, making them look as though they've been run over
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Pretty amazing how obvious a first impression that is, and they're somehow cool with that.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Have they won a single game in these uniforms?

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Years ago Alex Ferguson banned Manchester United from playing in their third alternate kits ( awful Grey ones) because they didn't win and played awful in them .

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 I don't think they've won in Friday black, either. Maybe they did on Tuesday Night Mets? I forget already
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Yeah, blaming the togs would be too easy.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 To be fair to the City Connects, it's not like they are winning a lot in any of the uniforms.

The color scheme will be toggling back and forth throughout the season.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 • The purple on the hat's button, the jersey and the piping of the white pants is a reference to the 7 Line. Now that I know what the purple is for, I mean symbolizes, the City Connect uniforms are so much more nicer to look at. /rollseyes
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Gary mentioned during the game how little they have been winning this season in any of the home alternates (blue, black, or C.C.) ... but they did today in the blues.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 The Athletic ranks all 28 City Connect uniforms. The Mets unis are ranked 19th out of 28th. I think this ranking is even worse than is sounds given how vomit-inducing ugly the CC unis that are actually ranked below the Mets are.The Rockies CC's are ranked the best at #1.[FIMG=444]https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2024/06/16231107/USATSI_23250262-2048x1535.jpg[/FIMG]https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5560347/2024/06/17/mlb-city-connect-uniform-rankings/https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5560347/2024/06/17/mlb-city-connect-uniform-rankings/
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 They're all a challenge and a jolt. I think a lot of the ones ranked high can go low, and the ones ranked low can go high.In the field of publicly proclaimed rankings, rarely do rankers stick with to a single standard. We have been American Idol-ized. Generating passionate dissent becomes the point, rather than building consensus.

I'd say the Mets are in the middle of stupid ugly City Connects, I'd put em in 3rd place among teams represented by three gigantic initials (WSH, CLE, NYC, PGH)
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Why don't the MFY have a CC ? Too proud ,or is this a MLB rollout?

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 The Yankees are very uptight about their "traditions" and the uniform is part of that. The refusal to participate in City Connect is, I'm sure, related to their ongoing refusal to put names on the backs of their uniforms. It's a bit ironic when you consider that they were the team to introduce uniform numbers about a century ago.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 If I had no team I was partial to, and I had to pick any of these looks as my everyday uniform (and I guess that's a standard), I'd pick the Mets City Connect look over the Roxxx 94 times out of a 100.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I don't think the Mets version is bad at all. I like the shade of grey. Purple is an interesting variation. I think the bridge on the cap is weird, but otherwise I'm okay with it.But speaking of colors, I remember when there were uniform standards that restricted players to only wearing gear that's a team color. It's why Tsuyoshi Shinjo had to wear an orange protector instead of his trademark red that he wore in Japan. But that obviously changed at some point. Manny Machado was wearing pink sleeves under his Padres jersey this weekend. Harrison Bader wears lavender. I see green shoes and yellow shoes. When did this change?(P.S.: I don't like the white sleeves that some Mets, including Nimmo and Alvarez, have been wearing. I would prefer if Mets players stuck with wearing blue, and perhaps orange.)
