Sun just came out in Baltimore for the first time in April. Don't know if it's going to stay but the teams have Mize and Houser each bumped to tonight's game, so let's keep this IGT going for tonight's (scheduled) punch-up.

Orioles have a 1:00 home game today, Phils are at 4:00, Nats at 6:45

so we'll see how the weather is at those while waiting for our time slot.

It's goofy, in that April rainouts used to be no big whoop. Not only was the schedule more tilted toward division play, but teams tended to open the season against division rivals, so if a game couldn't be played in April, you knew that opponent would be coming through town for a couple more series later in the year.



Now, scheduling exotic matchups like Mets-vs.-Tigers-for-three-games in April seems to set us up for "Let's stand by for 36 hours to see if we can get six innings of cold, wet, poorly played baseball in" disasters, leading even baseball's greatest cheerleaders like Gary Cohen for "Sometimes, I hate this game" moments.

I like that there is all of one person visible in the ballpark behind them — a lone raincoated figure standing in the rain like Charlie Brown except down the left field line.

So one week into the season and the results are 4 losses plus 3 rainouts.

Ugh!





Aaaand, the make-up games have eaten up the only two off days they had between the start of the season

and April 17th so from here it's 15 games in the next 14 days ... weather permitting of course.

Braves @ ChiSox rained out today, re-sked for a mutual off-day on June 27 when the Braves will play consecutive games in StL (Wed) CHI (Thu) and ATL (Fri)





Meanwhile they're still waiting out weather in the scheduled 1:00 start in Baltimore and the 4:00 in Philly

Neither has started but neither has either been postponed.

We got sun this morning and mostly pleasing temps, but actual talk of snow flurries or ice pellets spiraling into the area this afternoon.

How often does a DH bat 9th? I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm saying that it says something about Stewart and the decision to keep him around despite a terrible ST.

Tigers trot out the same lineup they've been trying to get on the field since Tuesday evening. Mets release Nimmo from DH jail, slide Taylor into center, and replace Bader with new DH DJ Stewart in (as noted above) the nine-hole.

I want to note that the Tigers have perhaps as many as six guys in the lineup with last-name first names. It's like a Nelson Doubleday class reunion out there.

I have the game on now. This is the first game I'm watching live this season! (I watched Monday night's game on Tuesday morning.)



I still can't get over how bad the names on the uniform jerseys look.

I think, as a short-notice double-header, the teams only get to add an extry player for Game Two. And that stings the Mets a little more, as they are already without Yohan Ramirez for Game One.



Good to see Nimmo getting his walk game back in gear.

I've watched one live and won't add to that toal until at least Saturday (day games today and Apple+ on Friday)

Gelbs report suggests that Mendoza is a guy who specifically likes swinging 3–0, because it's such a fastball count.
