Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 3, 2024 Author Posted April 3, 2024 Sun just came out in Baltimore for the first time in April. Don't know if it's going to stay but the teams have Mize and Houser each bumped to tonight's game, so let's keep this IGT going for tonight's (scheduled) punch-up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 Orioles have a 1:00 home game today, Phils are at 4:00, Nats at 6:45so we'll see how the weather is at those while waiting for our time slot.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 3, 2024 Author Posted April 3, 2024 It's goofy, in that April rainouts used to be no big whoop. Not only was the schedule more tilted toward division play, but teams tended to open the season against division rivals, so if a game couldn't be played in April, you knew that opponent would be coming through town for a couple more series later in the year. Now, scheduling exotic matchups like Mets-vs.-Tigers-for-three-games in April seems to set us up for "Let's stand by for 36 hours to see if we can get six innings of cold, wet, poorly played baseball in" disasters, leading even baseball's greatest cheerleaders like Gary Cohen for "Sometimes, I hate this game" moments.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 3, 2024 Author Posted April 3, 2024 I like that there is all of one person visible in the ballpark behind them — a lone raincoated figure standing in the rain like Charlie Brown except down the left field line.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 The Tigers must be loving this.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 So one week into the season and the results are 4 losses plus 3 rainouts.Ugh!Aaaand, the make-up games have eaten up the only two off days they had between the start of the season and April 17th so from here it's 15 games in the next 14 days ... weather permitting of course.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2024 Author Posted April 4, 2024 We got sun this morning and mostly pleasing temps, but actual talk of snow flurries or ice pellets spiraling into the area this afternoon.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 How often does a DH bat 9th? I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm saying that it says something about Stewart and the decision to keep him around despite a terrible ST.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2024 Author Posted April 4, 2024 Tigers trot out the same lineup they've been trying to get on the field since Tuesday evening. Mets release Nimmo from DH jail, slide Taylor into center, and replace Bader with new DH DJ Stewart in (as noted above) the nine-hole.

[TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://seeklogo.com/images/D/detroit-tigers-logo-8DB6243B47-seeklogo.com.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH]

[TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH][TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH]

=#0C2340]1=#FA4616]Parker Meadows (L)=#0C2340]cf=#FF5910]1=#002D72]Brandon Nimmo (L)=#FF5910]lf

=#0C2340]2=#FA4616]Spencer Torkelson (R)=#0C2340]1b=#FF5910]2=#002D72]Francisco Lindor (S)=#FF5910]ss

=#0C2340]3=#FA4616]Kerry Carpenter (L)=#0C2340]dh=#FF5910]3=#002D72]Pete Alonso (R)=#FF5910]1b

=#0C2340]4=#FA4616]Riley Greene (L)=#0C2340]lf=#FF5910]4=#002D72]Francisco Álvarez (R)=#FF5910]c

=#0C2340]5=#FA4616]Matt Vierling (R)=#0C2340]rf=#FF5910]5=#002D72]Brett Baty (L)=#FF5910]3b

=#0C2340]6=#FA4616]Colt Keith (L)=#0C2340]2b=#FF5910]6=#002D72]Starling Marte (R)=#FF5910]rf

=#0C2340]7=#FA4616]Carson Kelly (R)=#0C2340]c=#FF5910]7=#002D72]Jeff McNeil (L)=#FF5910]2b

=#0C2340]8=#FA4616]Gio Urshela (R)=#0C2340]3b=#FF5910]8=#002D72]Tyrone Taylor (R)=#FF5910]cf

=#0C2340]9=#FA4616]Zach McKinstry (L)=#0C2340]ss=#FF5910]9=#002D72]DJ Stewart (L)=#FF5910]dh

[TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH]

=#0C2340]=#FA4616]Casey Mize (R)=#0C2340]sp=#FF5910]=#002D72]Adrian Houser (R)=#FF5910]sp

I want to note that the Tigers have perhaps as many as six guys in the lineup with last-name first names. It's like a Nelson Doubleday class reunion out there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 I have the game on now. This is the first game I'm watching live this season! (I watched Monday night's game on Tuesday morning.)I still can't get over how bad the names on the uniform jerseys look.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2024 Author Posted April 4, 2024 I think, as a short-notice double-header, the teams only get to add an extry player for Game Two. And that stings the Mets a little more, as they are already without Yohan Ramirez for Game One.Good to see Nimmo getting his walk game back in gear.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Citi Field looks pretty empty. It's like Shea Stadium in 1980.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2024 Author Posted April 4, 2024 Brett Baty coming to the plate with two runners on, two out, and a fanny pack on.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Steve Cohen just retired Adrian Houser's uniform
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2024 Author Posted April 4, 2024 Twins sitting behind home plate.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Houser looks a little like Dillon Gee on the bump, though it might just be the 35
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2024 Author Posted April 4, 2024 Gelbs report suggests that Mendoza is a guy who specifically likes swinging 3–0, because it's such a fastball count.I disapprove.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2024 Author Posted April 4, 2024 BASEBALL!!The first Mets lead of the season!!
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 They led after marte's opening day homer. This was nice to see though
