Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 I was leaning toward Davis, but now I'd Judiciously Decline. JD Martinez just seems like the kind of signing Brodie Van Wagenen would do, and it would blow up in our faces. He's been good a long time, but the Mets have a knack for catching good ballplayers just as they fall off a cliff. Stearns seems to not want to spend a lot of Unka Steve's money this winter, so if this is a 'let the kids play' season, JDM doesn't make a lot of sense.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 The guy probably figured that if he's gong to have his 2024 salary slashed from an anticipated $7.5M down to about 1/3 of that it would help him tighten his belt to his new budget if he didn't also have to pay a moving company to haul his stuff across the country.

It's safe up there

That the Mets could not guarantee that reflects that Stearns is sticking with this plan and wants more information and certainty with Baty and Vientos.

You have a decent chance at being the immortal answer to the trivia question "who made the last out of the last major league game ever played in Oakland?"
