His name is William Penn Murfee and with a name like that, he must be from Pennsylvania. (He's from Nashville.)

29 years old, has appeared in 80 big league games, all but one in relief, and all in the last two seasons with Seattle. A lifetime ERA of 2.70 over 83.1 innings. 28 walks, 92 strikeouts, allowed 8 home runs.

Let's get him some options, send him down, bring him up, send him down, bring him up...

With numbers like that, I wondered why they let him go.

Here's the rest of the story (from Metsmerized):
his season ended due to needing Tommy John surgery in July. He's expected to be out all of 2024, but he will have five years of team control left starting next year.

The blurb I read (https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/mets-penn-murfee-claimed-by-mets/CBS Sports) sez he had surgery in July and could be second-half help. Here's hoping.

I hope so.

But as with Gott, you never forget your first case of hemorrhoids.

He was really good in 2022. He had some control issues this year, but it's possible he thought he had a minor arm issue that he could pitch through and it turned out to be much worse than that. Some people take longer than others to recover fully from TJS, so I'd make no promises with this guy. But he's totally worth a waiver claim.

Gott the Twat we call him in my house (or in my brain in my house maybe). He was personally rude to my wife on every occasion when he was pitching in AAA Syracuse and his daughter was enrolled at my wife's day care center.

The Braves have grabbed the baton for the next leg of the Penn relays, as Atlanta claimed Murfee off waivers from the Mets yesterdoo.

He just turned 26. Hasn't done much in the big leagues (played in 96 games for the Pirates in 2022, hitting .206 with 11 homers in 283 plate appearances) but had what looks like a nice season in AAA (Arizona's Reno affiliate) in 2023. (124 games, .313/.431/.410 33 doubles, 3 homers and 94 runs scored).

DiComo had a Q&A with Max that went out in the MLB email and turns out he's one of us.

Growing up near Scranton, Pa., you were a Mets fan?

Yeah, my dad grew up liking them. We actually had season tickets at Shea for many years, so pretty much every Sunday afternoon home game, we were there. [Getting claimed by them was] amazing. Such a great opportunity. You never really think of those things, but it's kind of a dream come true. I'm just excited to get down there and be in the blue and orange.
