metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Is that a variation on Murphy?? My god
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 He's probably pretty good if they named the 'pen after him.

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 The rare right-handed reliever who can't hit 90 but his numbers are otherwise pretty good.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 His name is William Penn Murfee and with a name like that, he must be from Pennsylvania. (He's from Nashville.)29 years old, has appeared in 80 big league games, all but one in relief, and all in the last two seasons with Seattle. A lifetime ERA of 2.70 over 83.1 innings. 28 walks, 92 strikeouts, allowed 8 home runs.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Let's get him some options, send him down, bring him up, send him down, bring him up...
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 (edited) He's a side-armer and https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/penn-murfee-682171?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlbstatcast loves his ass. He's recovering from TJ surgery, so maybe a second half arm. I love that the Mets are doing stuff like this. Edited October 31, 2023 by Guest

He's expected to be out all of 2024, but he will have five years of team control left starting next year. OE - posted the same time as Seo.Later

Here's hoping.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 He was really good in 2022. He had some control issues this year, but it's possible he thought he had a minor arm issue that he could pitch through and it turned out to be much worse than that. Some people take longer than others to recover fully from TJS, so I'd make no promises with this guy. But he's totally worth a waiver claim.

He was personally rude to my wife on every occasion when he was pitching in AAA Syracuse and his daughter was enrolled at my wife's day care center.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 The Braves have grabbed the baton for the next leg of the Penn relays, as Atlanta claimed Murfee off waivers from the Mets yesterdoo.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Penn Murfee got non-tendered tonight by the Braves. This poor fella's been dumped three times in three weeks.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2023 Author Posted November 17, 2023 Murfee's Law I suppose

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Last spot on the roster, to my reckoning.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 He just turned 26. Hasn't done much in the big leagues (played in 96 games for the Pirates in 2022, hitting .206 with 11 homers in 283 plate appearances) but had what looks like a nice season in AAA (Arizona's Reno affiliate) in 2023. (124 games, .313/.431/.410 33 doubles, 3 homers and 94 runs scored).
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 (edited) National League champion Arizona Diamondback Diego Castillo, that is. (One game, but still.)https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/castidi02.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/castidi02.shtml Edited January 5, 2024 by Guest
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 I immediately thought he was a different (better) Diego Castillo.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Diego Castillo DFA'd to clear space for Sean Manaea.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Maybe they, too, realized it was the other Diego Castillo.

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 DiComo had a Q&A with Max that went out in the MLB email and turns out he's one of us.Growing up near Scranton, Pa., you were a Mets fan?Yeah, my dad grew up liking them. We actually had season tickets at Shea for many years, so pretty much every Sunday afternoon home game, we were there. [Getting claimed by them was] amazing. Such a great opportunity. You never really think of those things, but it's kind of a dream come true. I'm just excited to get down there and be in the blue and orange.
