roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 The Mick would be 91 today!Just kidding. It pains me that Keith Hernandez's birthday would fall on Mantle's birthday. Keith is 70 today. And actually I don't know how old Mantle would have been today--that's just a guess. But Keith is definitely 70.Which makes me feel old, very old.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Today would have been Mantle's 92nd birthday.I hadn't been aware that Keith and Mantle shared a birthday. My girlfriend's son is 16 today. He has such a complete contempt and loathing for sports that he would not care at all that he shares a birthday with Keith Hernandez and Mickey Mantle. So I don't think I'll mention it.

I can see “eh, not stuff I'm interested in now, or ever.”. In a way I can see it more from someone that “learns” and “reads” more and decides there is more socio-economic sort of stuff going on with organized sports as a concept to feel that passionately against their very existence.Had he been the target of extreme harassment and bullying from jocks in school? Association with a piece of shit father or other family figure?

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 As was probably the case for lots of kids growing up in NYC in the 1950's, Mickey Mantle was my dad's favorite player.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Is 'butternut squash bisque' some kind of MAGA code phrase? lol...

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 My Mantle memories are that he was a colossal drunkard. I used to goto his bar near Columbus Circle back in another life. There was a bartenderthere who quipped when asked if Mick was there, "yeah, he's in the back butbut doesn't really know where he is."
