I'm kinda guessing Bryn Alderson for GM and Joey Cora for manager. Mets go double-nepotism.

In fact, feel free to guess three sets — the leadership team you want, the leadership team you think you'll get, and the leadership team that could conceivably happen within the realm of reason, but you'd absolutely hate.

Want-Get-Hate. I guess that's a variation on Fuck-Marry-Kill, though I never really understood that game.

WANT: Ben Sestanovich, assistant GM of the Braves, and Joe McEwing

GET: Bryn Alderson and Joey Cora

HATE: Uh, Dan O'Dowd and Ozzie Guillen

Want: don't care who the GM is really, whoever Stearns likes is fine. A miracle re-hiring of Buck and blaming it all on Eppler would be great. Or Bobby V asks for the job and a starry eyed Stearns can't say no to his boyhood idol.

Get: some GM guy who worked for Stearns before. Craig Counsell.

Hate: the former braves GM who cheated, Don Mattingly (just because the Yankee stench I don't want)

Mattingly probably has a decent chance of at least getting through the door for an interview.

Why not? They've been kissing Yankee butt ever since they hired Stengel.

Berra, Randolph, Showalter--no Yankee butt is too stinky for the Mets to smooch. You'd think they'd show some goddamned pride, but that's too much to ask, I guess.

Maybe re-hire Randolph, with Mattingly as GM?

Want:

GM Carlos Rodriguez who? This guy: https://www.mlb.com/rays/team/front-office/carlos-rodriguezhttps://www.mlb.com/rays/team/front-office/carlos-rodriguez

I like the Rays' model of putting together a roster of players whose skills compliment each other. And he has talent evaluation chops. I would love to see what he could do with a large budget.

Whoever it is, I would like someone who emulates the Atlanta approach - scouting and signing young talent, developing them and then locking them in to long term contracts.

This article describes it in greater detail.

Manager: Endy Chavez or some other link to the past. Someone who makes good in-game decisions as well as can manage the clubhouse.

Will get: GM and manager -someone with whom Stearns has worked before.

Wouldn't like: The long list includes Mattingly( either position), John Gibbons and Dusty Baker (manager)

I don't know who to root for to fill these two positions. I'd like to see a younger manager, someone under fifty. As for the GM, I wouldn't be surprised if they promoted someone from within.

I wonder if we'll hear an outcry for Wally Backman this time around, as we have every other time, or if his fans have moved on?

I'm not a Buck apologist, but I'm not convinced there is anyone out there who is a definite improvement upon him...especially in 2024.

Counsell? Meh. He can take a good, healthy team and get them to 90 wins, but he has been pretty terrible at doing much more when the calendar flips to October. Is that enough? Not for me.
