The Mets start a road trip in Washington after getting a Labor Day travel day for a skip down I-95. The team celebrates the birthdays of Rod "Throb" Barajas (48) and Chris Young (the outfielder, not the pitcher, 40) as José Quintana takes the hill against fellow lefty Patrick Corbin. The Nats had pulled ahead of the Mets by a half game or so briefly, but have lost five in a row and seven of their last 10.

The four rookies in consecutive spots in the starting lineup for the Mets.

Has that happened yet this year?

If not, when was the last time that happened for the Mets?

Looking a game ahead (do we have an injury thread any more?)

Carrasco to the IL with a broken finger (hurt in the weight room on Sunday)

Butto will start in his place.

I don't know which hurts more.

Vientos changed his mind about going, or not, for a triple about four times as he approached 2nd base.

It was an easy triple even with the hesitation dance steps. Not sure why he was so undecided.

He hurt his foot on Sunday and maybe he was playing it safe.

Well that makes hitting the brakes then the gas on about four consecutive strides a really poor idea then.

Yes it does. He could really pop something with the starts and stops.

OK enough of you Sam Coonrod

Nice job by SR-F.

Also a lesson in how 'Inherited Runners Scoring' is a wildly misleading stat to the point of essentially being meaningless.

What the fuck is a coon-rod anyway? I clicked his name from the box score on The Athletic and he is wearing a Phillies hat - that is about all I needed to know. Fuck him.

Netherlands name. It's the Dutch equivalent of the Germanic "Conrad." It kind of translates to "bold counsel."

Pretty nice when Alonso and Álvarez both connect in the same game. The two of them hot at the same time could be terrifying.

The Mets pass the Pirates and could catch the Pads by the end of the evening. Unfortunately, the Mariners weren't content with just losing to the Mets, and blew a three-run lead over the Reds in the last two innings, going down walk-off style.
