New York tries to take a series against the league's best by sending lefty José Quintana, coming off his first Metly win, facing longtimer Charlie Morton. Morton throws with his right arm, so the Mets strategy of stacking lefties may continue. Or it may not. I don't know.

The team continues to be sandwiched between San Diego (a game ahead) and Washington (a half game behind) and opportunities to move up are still available to them if they can TCB, with swooning San Francisco falling from their once-seemingly secure perch of the second Wild Card spot, their fates suddenly swapped with those of red-hot Pham-led Arizona. Five teams sit within a single game of each other around those two positions, and with the Giants playing the Phillies, the Marlins playing the Padres, and the Diamondbacks playing the Reds, there could be a lot of movement before nightfall.

So root for the Mets to take this one, and if you can do it without bringing harm on yourself, root for the Yankees to break out of their free-fall and help get the Nationals off our tail.

Also, it's Rick Springfield's birthday, so if that isn't reason enough to play our best, I don't know what is.

Barbara Eden (Morehead) was born today too. But you go with

Rick Springfield. Interesting.

Hmmm ... Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea vs. Battlestar Gallactica.

It's a big day either way.

This is Charlie f'n Morton!!

You've faced him a gazillion times.

You know what he throws.

Let's get some runs.

By your command.

Going into the boom of the 4th, they are being held hitless by Charlie f'n Morton.

1-0 bad guys.

Tonight's output is making last night's five hit effort look like an offensive bonanza.

Which is particularly disturbing on the one night they're managing to hold the Braves under 7 HRs

[CROSSOUT]One hit is better than none.[/CROSSOUT]

Oh fuck, did I really say that?

This is disheartening.

I've been trying not to write this sentence, because I don't know what I'm talking about, but I suspect Marcel Ozuna of being drugged to the gills.

Are we sure he isn't Chipper Jones in disguise?

Seeing as Chipper's in the booth and 51 years old, I think we're safe on that score.

Well he is a proven drug cheat as well as an abuser of women.
