MLBTR sez the Mets are DFA'ing Flexen and picked up his salary so they could acquire Gott. okie doke.

PS - good thread title. I would've said "Gott Flexen?" and that was basic

"Chris, we've made a deal, and are trading you to the Mets."

"YAY! I'm going home!"

"I haven't finished yet, Chris."

Martino said the Mets might do a number trades where they can take a bad contract, release the player and eat it. I wouldn't have thought Flexen would have a bad contract, thought.

About $4 mil for Flexen apparently.

I happened to see a piece of a Seattle game a few days ago and was surprised to see Flexen's ERA north of 7.00 when he came into a game. He had two pretty decent seasons post-NYM so I'm not sure what happened lately but it includes 13 RA in his last 5 outings totalling less than 9 innings.

On Arthur Avenue, they would have said the Mets got Un-Gotts.

Trevor Gott doesn't seem very impressive as an addition, but I guess if he is better than Brigham or Hartwig that is good enough since all he cost was Steve's cash.

I'd be willing to offer Flexen a team option for next year at something like $4M or a half million buyout, so that he accepts the demotion and maybe we can get the 2022 Flexen back before this season is out. Worst case scenario, we're out a little bit more money.

Otherwise, I can see the point of spending money instead of a prospect (even a borderline one) to get a reliever who'll still be under team control next year, but I'm not sure Gott is worth the trouble. That being said, I wish their was some way to pair Gott with Tim Teufel.

Flexen had become a KBO God and had a year of success with Seattle upon his return

He is the definition of "pitches to contact"

We've been watching D-Reyes get knocked around in Syracuse for weeks since his demotion. Peace out tomato can.

In other related news, Fwife had to interact with Trevor Gott a number of times in the past, as he had a child enrolled in my wife's day care center when he was pitching here in Syracuse as a minor leaguer in the Nationals system. His baby mama was quite nice and their daughter as well, but in every interaction with him my wife stated that he was a smarmy, entitled asshole. She was not pleased to hear about this trade.

Chris Flexen has signed with the Colorado Rockies, or as the Daily News might have put it in its glory days, Flex to Rox.
