It was explicitly pitted as Sanchez vs. Vientos.

We've got to try harder.

Its my opinion about who I'd prefer.

You prefer Vientos as our backup catcher?

I must say, that's an odd choice.

I didn't say I wanted Vientos as the backup catcher.

You did.

I said I'd rather have him on the team.

There's a real epidemic of posters being unwilling to be accountable for what they write, and it's really not too much to ask of anybody. This place sucks mighty quickly otherwise.

There's less than two dozen people who post here regularly. A dozen?

Epidemic?

Multiple posters several times in the last several days?

If that's not widespread enough to qualify as epidemic by your standards, I certainly accept that.

"Its my opinion ..." is a page out of Ms. Met's book.

You said you wanted Vientos (or Mauricio) on the team instead of Sánchez which totally misses the point.

The point is that they've had injuries and are trying to get sone offense out of the C position while the first four options they've tried [Nido, Narvaez, Perez, Alvarez] have been injured and/or significantly sub-par.

Vientos is hitting the crap out of the ball but is defensively challenged. I wouldn't want to see him play a position more than occasionally.

Mauricio, also hitting the crap out of the ball, is probably more position-flexible, but you've got to get rid of someone else to get him in the lineup. McNeil/Lindor/Baty aren't going anywhere. Perhaps subbing McNeil for Canha in left and plunking Mauricio at second, I dunno.

This team needs some shaking up, and these are hopefully two guys who can do it.

It's getting chippy in here. Probably in part due to the losing

Most people look for change when things are going poorly, certainly I do.

Rightly or wrongly it's human nature

A four or five game winning streak will take some heat off the team and it's fans

No need for us to argue about something over which we have no control.

I think you just said "there is no need for the internet"

The consensus on Vientos seems to be that he is 1B/DH-only - since Alonso isn't going anywhere, he isn't coming up until the Mets are ready to hand him the RH DH at-bats. I think its perfectly valid to want to try the guys on the roster a little longer. If Sanchez comes up and gets a bunch of DH ABs then break out the pitchforks. If Sanchez comes up and mostly catches (or mostly rides the bench behind Alvarez until Narvaez is healthy) there should be no beef here.

Mets to call up Gary Sánchez in time for Friday night's game vs Cleveland.

Presumably the victim of this will be Michael Perez, but that hasn't been announced yet.

Perez was the starting catcher for the Mets in today's game. Made that awesome back-pick that bailed the Mets out of trouble.

Under any circumferences, the prophecy that Sanchez would be called up before Mark Vientos did not come to pass.

Just remember that the knock on Sanchez from his Yankme days is that he is a defensively challenged catcher, and passed balls are a specialty. MFYs rode his bat for as long as they could and were willing to pay the price defensively. When he stopped hitting, he stopped playing.

The irony is that Perez is playing out of his mind in the brief amount of time he's gotten, although it would appear to be the textbook definition of unsustainability.

How weird, and pretty cool, that two of the three games turned on catcher pickoffs.

Any chance Alvarez gets sent down when Nido comes back?

Magic 8-Ball sez, "No way, Jose"

When Narvaez returns is the more likely chance but that'll be several weeks at least and who knows how the cards will read by then.

So apparently, Sanchez got a time limit for how long the Mets could wait before activating him, and then a guaranteed prorated $1.5M salary which leaves the Mets on the books for about a million for the rest of this season. Well I hope the 6 at-bats he got instead of Perez make all the difference in the season.

Was he threatening to force the government to default on its debts?
