"But that aside, let me say that I swear, on the souls of my grandchildren,

that I will not be the one who will break the peace we have made here today."

You beat me to that quote by about ten nanoseconds.

LOL!

Does anyone have any theories as to why a guy getting suspended for using human growth hormone can be replaced on the roster, but a guy getting suspended for using Spider Tack cannot?

Just guessing.

The discovery of the Spider Tack happens out in front of the fans and (gasp) cameras.

The discovery of the HGH is in a lab, with few prying eyes.

MLB must feel the Spider Tack is more damaging to their image. The HGH suspension makes the next day's papers, but nobody reads them any more.

That's the only thing I can think of. Is there a difference in length of suspension?

Very much so. One is half a season for a first offense and the other is 10 days. But the audience is equally cognizant either way.

Besides, being unable to replace the player on the roster penalizes the team, not the guy.

The triangle showed up as I was posting. I didn't know what it meant then, either.

The decline in spin rate from Scherzer's previous start to last night was the biggest decline from one start to another in his career (limited to the time that statcast has been around). His velocity was down again. But, yeah, he wasn't cheating.

Maybe MLB feels that human growth hormone is often being ingested at home (at least in the modern anti-steroid era) where as spider tack is necessarily being applied right before the game, if not between innings, and so the club knew or should have known the cheating was happening?

That's as good a theory as any, I guess.

I'm kind of flummoxed. Are there any other suspensions we've seen where the player can't be replaced?

Not a suspension but Max says he is having discomfort in the area around his scapula

Let's hope Max Scherzer's scapula won't deserve its own thread.
