Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Does anyone have any theories as to why a guy getting suspended for using human growth hormone can be replaced on the roster, but a guy getting suspended for using Spider Tack cannot?

The discovery of the HGH is in a lab, with few prying eyes.MLB must feel the Spider Tack is more damaging to their image. The HGH suspension makes the next day's papers, but nobody reads them any more. That's the only thing I can think of. Is there a difference in length of suspension?Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Very much so. One is half a season for a first offense and the other is 10 days. But the audience is equally cognizant either way.Besides, being unable to replace the player on the roster penalizes the team, not the guy.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Right. It doesn't seem reasonable. Or fair.Later
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 What does the ! In the triangle mean?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 I don't know. I've tried to figure it out myself.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Me too. I think it means that somebody reported one of the posts, but I don't see any record of that anywhere.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 I'll bet it was Max Scherzer!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Author Posted April 27, 2023 The triangle showed up as I was posting. I didn't know what it meant then, either.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 The decline in spin rate from Scherzer's previous start to last night was the biggest decline from one start to another in his career (limited to the time that statcast has been around). His velocity was down again. But, yeah, he wasn't cheating.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 I'm blaming it all on the aforementioned triangle

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 That's as good a theory as any, I guess.I'm kind of flummoxed. Are there any other suspensions we've seen where the player can't be replaced?

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Not a suspension but Max says he is having discomfort in the area around his scapula

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Looks like we'll be seeing a lot more of José Butto.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I kinda like Butto. He looks like a "thin" version of Colon and yes he may be making more than a few startsLGB
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2023 Author Posted May 9, 2023 Let's hope Max Scherzer's scapula won't deserve its own thread.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Peterson is flying to Cincinnati just in case. Uh oh.
