Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 There are plenty of towns that need to bend over backwards with public financing to draw a team. Vegas isn't one of those.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Salt Lake City--you're on deck!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I've seen references to Salt Lake City, but find it hard to believe that it would be ahead of Nashville, not to mention Charlotte, Portland, Vancouver, and Montreal. I suppose it might be easier for the A's to get approval to move to a city in the West, so that divisions don't have to be realigned, but I would be surprised if they were strictly required to stay out West.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 I mentioned SLC because of where it is as a place for the A's. IMO, Nashville is a front-runner for an expansion team.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 There has been talk of the A's to SacramentoSutter Health Field 10-14k capacityHome of the Triple A River Dogs of the SF Giants brandIf this was 20 years ago they could play at Randall's Island
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Sacramento, about 80 miles east and 40 degrees hotter (in the summer) than Oakland. You'd want a domed stadium if a move there were to be permanent.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 5, 2024 Posted March 5, 2024 If there's anythin' more ridiculous than proposed stadium mockups, it just might be mockups of proposed stadiums in Las Vegas. And the A's do not disappoint!![FIMG=600]https://www.reviewjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/18925320_web1_A-s-Vegas-Ballpark-day-exterior-Design-by-BIG-Image-by-Negativ.jpg?crop=1[/FIMG][FIMG=600]https://www.reviewjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/18925320_web1_A-s-Vegas-Ballpark-interior-Design-by-BIG-Image-by-Negativ.jpg?crop=1[/FIMG][FIMG=600]https://www.reviewjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/18925320_web1_A-s-Vegas-Ballpark-night-exterior-Design-by-BIG-Image-by-Negativ.jpg?crop=1[/FIMG][FIMG=600]https://www.reviewjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/18925320_web1_A-s-Vegas-Ballpark-plaza-Design-by-BIG-Image-by-Negativ.jpg?crop=1[/FIMG]It would be nice if somebody in contemporary America did something that wasn't entirely derivative.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2024 Posted March 5, 2024 Someone saw the Sydney Opera House and thought yeah that'll do

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 All respect to Disney, but I imagine that Vegas is the forced perspective capital of the world.

I'm hoping that the retro era of stadium design is over. It was f7n when the Orioles did it, but now it's gone too far.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 it definitely would suck especially if you're siting in right field. and maybe there's another one over the third-base dugout or something for the other half of the stadium to see. but the overall idea of it, being up on the roof there like that, is just perfect, and a wonderful use of hte otherwise blank space
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, the Tropicana Hotel and Casino closed this week in anticipation of its being demolished to make room for the new stadium for the A's.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 So will they be officially known as the Sacramento Athletics for three years?
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Here's hoping they are the California Athletics, and use the old Angels interlocking C and A cap design in green and gold.

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 By the way, Sacramento can get dangerously hot --expect almost exclusively night games, like they have in Arlington, for the next three years.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 What a journey this organization has made over the years
