G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Spring Training! Exult or yawn at will Here are all the hot numbers from the Port of Saint Lucie.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 "it's huge!""That's what she said."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Unassigned Numbers I Spy:457816184861646768697588899900 (to the extent that it's different from 0, and that's both a logical and semantical corner I don't want to paint myself into)That should be just enough to cover the backs of the additional spring training coaches, leaving aside the notion that 8 may now be joined by 5 (and possibly 16 and 18 and 48) in the Hall of the Resevered-but-not-Retired.No special guest celebrity instructors. No Mookie or Mikey. Not even a Teufel. No offense, Miguel Cairo.I don't like 33 on Ruf. I like to see 33 on the back of a big, slow, caucasian, misbegotten-but-likable, righthanded-hitting backup catcher. Give Ruf 4 and hand 33 off to Nick Meyer or Hayden Senger — preferably Meyer.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Let's hear it for Jimmy Yacabonis, paying tribute to the 1973 Mets.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 The Mets signed Jaylin Davis to a minor league contract with a ST invite. He's a right-handed hitting OFer.https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/davisja03.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/davisja03.shtmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaylin_Davishttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaylin_DavisHe has major league experience with SF and BOS and hit 35 HRs in the minors in 2019.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Batyboom!Is it "BAY-tee" or "batty"?
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Batyboom! Is it "BAY-tee" or "batty"?I'm watching the Astros feed on MLB.tv. Don't think it's on SNY
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 And now a Batyboot allows some guy on the Astros to reach base. Take the bad with the good is going to be a theme at 3B for a while.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Top of the third and 3 stolen bases in the game so far. The new rules look like they're having an effect.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 But will stolen bases still be stolen bases in the same sense when we are handcuffing the defense?
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Edgy MD wrote:But will stolen bases still be stolen bases in the same sense when we are handcuffing the defense?I guess you could say that about any rule change. The largest effect might be from the new rule that limits the pitcher to two pickoff throws before throwing a pitch. It could just be that Alvarez is catching. And the Mets' stolen base was from Tim Locastro, who isn't in the org for any reason except to steal bases. The game is definitely quicker. But I never saw the previous pace as a problem.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Has Luis Guillorme done something incredible yet?I feel like it's not spring until that happens.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 My MLB.tv frame says David Robertson is pitching, the chyron says Eric Orze is pitching, and the announcer says minor league floater Justin Courtney is pitching. The camera says Courtney is correct. Or, at least, someone with “COURTNEY” on the back of his shirt is on the mound, and giving up a homer for the first Astro run.Courtney is wearing #30, which is the number that the roster above says belongs to Robertson, which I guess explains some of the confusion.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Edgy MD wrote:Has Luis Guillorme done something incredible yet?I feel like it's not spring until that happens.Actually, he made a nice move to his right to smother a ball up the middle, though he couldn't get the out.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Don Kessinger's grandson playing second for Houston.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Billy Wagner's son is in ST for the 'Stros. A position player, but I'm not paying close enough attention to notice what position.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Jaylen Palmer just lost a deep fly to wall, and the announcers are thinking he's Alex Ramirez.Palmer is not only a floater from minor league camp, but he's also an infielder playing center.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Kessinger's grandson ties it up with a double to left.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Mets gloves are definitely not ready for prime time yet. Showalter is managing this game. Don't know if he's going to travel to tonight's game or if one of the coaches will handle the managerial duties against the Marlins.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Billy Wagner's son Will is also having a game for himself as the second Houston thirdbaseman.
