I can't imagine they'll get much back for him. Probably just prospects to save some money and clear a roster spot for Baty or Vientos. I get that JD needed the change of scenery, but would love to have been able to hold on to some of the pitchers we gave up in that deal.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 He might be replacement level working at Boston Market, but anything above that is a stretch.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 I wouldn't be surprised at all if they ended up just releasing him. They were willing to eat Cano's salary, which was so much more than what's owed to Ruf.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 If Ruf was playing hurt last year, they should keep him right where he is. Or at least give him the chance to prove he is closer to being the guy from the previous couple of seasons.(Hell, they bailed on Davis prematurely, why make the same mistake twice?)

vtmet7 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 in retrospect, I really don't what the purpose was of trading for him...Volgelbus made sense, Ruf not so much...especially since he wasn't a free agent after 2022...I read somewhere that the Mets are trying to package him with McCann to the Rangers... I would imagine that Mets would be eating salary but if we could unload both in the same deal, that opens up 2 roster spots
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I can't imagine what Texas would force us to take in return if they took both these guys off our hands. Maybe Ted Cruz.
