Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 The Phils have now lost four in a row. The first two were to the Braves, and that's nothing to be ashamed of, but the last two were to the Cubs. The Cubs also hurt the Mets and nobody should be taken for granted, but this little spin has the Brewers within half a game, and has some hyperbolic Phils phans invoking the 1964 collapse.I think that's crazy, because how can you collapse from third place? It was always going to be a daily struggle. But now that the daily struggle is here, who do you want to see win this? I'm not going to poll this because we'd get caught between arguing for the team we'd rather see get that playoff spot for the Mets' sake.I'm kind of pulling for the Phils. Having played the Brewers twice now, I'm not sure they really feel like a real team. Going up against them feels like going up against a league-owned team managed by an algorithm. Their goofy new park name certainly underscores that. Miller was part of their brand identity like very few other stadium sponsors. Without Miller (a real, live BREWER, for Pete's sake), what are they?No matter how the end shakes out, this season represents a reversal of fortune for the Phillies. I hope the Phils pull a Jerry Manuel, mistake this turnaround as manager-driven, hire Thomson full-time, and watch him collapse next season. But this season, I'm pulling for the Liberty Bell team ... to get that last playoff spot, anyhow.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I'd rather see the Phillies as an opponent, but I'm rooting for the Brewers, because Phuck Philly always!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I'm rooting for the Brewers. I live in the Philadelphia market and having the Phillies in the postseason would be too annoying.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I'm pretty convinced the Brewers are a better team. I'd rather see the Phillies get lucky and bump off the Cardinals as our opponent.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 I'd like to see the Phillies lose their playoff spot on the last day after holding a big lead in game 162 and then vomiting upon it in late innings.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 I'd prefer the Brewers on the chance that a Mets playoff game in Milwaukee could be possible.Plus I hate for Philly to win anything.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 I'd rather see the Brewers. My daughter lives in Wisconsin so that's enough. Plus, any team with Schwarber, Hoskins and Harper can eat a bag of dicks.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 Both seem determined to NOT win the spot.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2022 Author Posted September 30, 2022 Well, they started a pitcher named "Falter" today and as much as that sounds like a commitment to faltering, they're up 1-0 over the Nats. It's the first of two, with Syndergaard going for them in the nachtspiel.
