Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Mrs. Lefty said afterwards, "I'm not sleeping tonight. That was too stressful."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 It seemed like pitcher after pitcher was just throwing little more than batting practice. Like nobody had their stuff working.I saw maybe three pitches from Diaz that looked like 2022 Diaz.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Just thought I'd point that the Mets just won three of four, from a good team no less, while using Trevor Williams, David Peterson, and Jose Butto (and Chris Bassitt) as starters while using the likes of Sam Clay, Steven Nogosek, Rob Zastrynzy, Jose Butto, and Nate Fisher -- none of whom I had heard of prior to this week -- to cover 30% (10.2 of 36) of the available innings.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 This game was ridiculous and awesome.
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 So, my son, the erstwhile poster Lenny Harris is in the process of moving to Philadelphia and we came down to see today's game. Certainly the longest game I've been to even without the rain delay but one of the most exciting ones as well. Lotta Met fans but the Phillies fans were actually pretty nice. There was discussion of leaving during the rain delay which if we had would have been something I would gave gnashed my teeth over for the rest of my days.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I would think Mr Canha woud drink deeply.I know it's the pattern to send a guy down or DFA him after these things, but I'd like Nate Fisher to stick around in the bigs for a bit, as a reward for a job well done.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 New Mets organizational rule: NO bat flips ... except against the Phillies.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Edgy MD wrote:New Mets organizational rule: NO bat flips ... except against the Phillies.I couldn't see the game. But I saw several mentions and links to the "bat flip".The video only shows the homer and follows the ball into the seats. NONE of them follow Canha and show the flip itself. Was it worth the discussion?Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Even Tom McCarthy, broadcasting from a deflated Phillies booth, was impressed.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Thanks.Worth the wait.Truly majestic.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 And how 'bout those displays of emotion from the normally stoic Mr. Canha? That bat come down yet?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I wonder if the Mets bench was annoyed with Segura's reaction to his 8th inning HR:
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Nice to see that Al Capp is still around.https://www.hakes.com/Image/MediumRes/70043/3/image.jpg>
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Segura ran out of the box and jumped when he saw the ball clear the fence. I would hope nobody would take such celebrating personally.Neither his homer nor Cahna's were game-winners, but they were both big homers that put their team up in the late innings of an epic contest with a lot on the line for an August game. I wouldn't deny either of them a jump or two.Segura is a Met killer and tough dude who has returned from injury and personal tragedy and has quietly put together a heck of a career. He hits to all fields with solid power for a middle infielder and remains a baserunning threat in his thirties.Maybe he's an asshole and a juicer — I don't know — but based on what I do know, he has my respect. He strikes me as very Asdrubally.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I don't like Segura but it's because he continues to get big hits against the Mets. Otherwise, no issue with a guy celebrating a late go ahead HR. They should be excited, they're major league baseball players for fuck's sake.
