Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Two poorly timed (are there any other kind?) GIDPs have kept this game from really blowing up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Carrasco has been working with sliders away most of the game but has been leaving some inside and getting hit harder here in the fifth.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 I suppose it's unrealistic to expect a team as good as this to just lay down because they're five runs in the hole.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Need to answer back here.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Nice response to the 1-2-3 that Wright put up in the bottom of the previous inning. Right back to it sez Cookford
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 The way to manage the bullpen is to get some runs.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 [bIGPURPLE]Everybody get Naquid![/bIGPURPLE]

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Everyone who criticized the deadline acquisitions apologize to Billy right now. I'll start.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 I think Buck knows what he is doing. He certainly knows a lot more than I do.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Ottovino bends but doesn't break.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 The slider away seems to kill these Braves. They hit everything else, though.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Dang! Ottavino had 2-outs and an 0-2 count and was sitting on a potential 8-pitch 1-2-3 inning ... then he nibbled on Arcia and gave up a 3-2 single, followed by a WP and an RBI single to bring Acuna up as the tying run. ... but then whiffs him!!

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Would have like to see them dive into the Braves' bullpen an inning or two earlier, but Matzek is in to start the 7th.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Diaz on in the 8th to face the big boys. I approve.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Seems pretty dumb not to go to Cahna.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 I let him pitch the ninth.Unless Cahna is loose.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Canha is unequivocally the better player, i know you struggle with that concept re: trading nobodies for established major leaguers, but small sample results not withstanding, if you routinely play the lesser player, you end up with a lesser team. Naquin was a decent pickup around the edges, they should be careful not to over expose him, and it's surprising to see in perhaps the biggest game of the year so far that you don't play the better guy. I don't trust our useless beat guys to ask/press Buck on this though, so we'll probably never know if there was a baseball reason behind it, something about Atlanta's pitch profile matching Naquin's swing profile, etc, if they're even aware of that sorta thing.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Vogelbach looks like he should be playing in Rec-League softball, but he has a good eye at the plate and he can certainly hit right handed pitchers.
