From the latter article:

Mayor Eric Adams is expected to throw his support behind a 25,000-seat soccer stadium near Citi Field, the New York Post reported. Sources told the outlet the stadium would be privately funded, built on land leased by two real estate titans, Fred Wilpon's Sterling Equities and Stephen Ross' Related Companies.

and Cohen wants to build a casino (and probably will, since he's bribing the right people)

you're not gonna recognize the place in 10 years.

I saw big stretches of the iron triangle cleared when I was there this month. Is that the spot where this is all going?

Wow. That's horrible.

Seems like a good place for a stadium -- or any kind of development that would make the area a little nicer for before or after game activities.

It would be nice if you could just reel it in a tad. This is a soccer stadium thread.

Isn't 25,000 kinda small for a soccer stadium? I don't follow American soccer

at all so don't know maybe that's the norm.

the scumbag of a former cop, who's solution to fake crime statistics is to harass homeless people, was relevant to the conversation, as he's got sway in what happens here. Just the "he approves of the stadium" is relevant because there are only so many things you can put there, and mentioning one without talking about the affordable housing (you know, to put the homeless people you're trying to kill in) or the school, is relevant.

This is NYC real estate, they're going to be fighting to maximize revenue/profit/riches/power and schools and affordable housing are roadblocks to them that they'd like to avoid, the only thing standing in the way is government regulations that are supposed to help protect citizens, but as we've seen from our favorite ex-cop asshole who lives in NJ, he doesn't care about them.

the revenue from parking pales compared to the casino revenue. Probably build a few parking garages too I'd imagine. And valet.

Whatever, I'd be shocked if they put a casino where Shea's home plate and

base markers are. I don't care, I take the subway.

People leaving a casino at all hours of the night with cash in their pockets and getting on the subway.

What could possibly go wrong?

No one builds affordable housing next to stadiums. Traffic and noise aren't compatible for places where families live. You build schools near housing, not in the middle of sports complexes.

No one is trying to kill homeless people.

Police aren't pigs.

I don't recognize the world you claim to live in.

I imagine this will get split but I'll ask here.

Ceets, there are like 800,000-1,000,000 police officers in the country.

They're all pigs to you?

The suggestion in the Real Deal article that a new 25k soccer stadium would be able to host World Cup games is laughable.

yeah, i mean, any world cup games that happen in "ny" will be obviously happening in nj, in the meadowlands. duh. unless it's the jets and not nyfc that get a new stadium in queens. not in some quaint little indoor arena.
