bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 It's a 12:20 PM ET start. Chris Bassitt against Charlie Mortonhttps://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-braves/2022/07/13/661505#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=661505https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-braves/2022/07/13/661505#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=661505Morton started the season poorly but has pitched well in his last 5 starts. Bassitt has been good but the Mets need him to be great today. My theory is that he pitches better with Max watching him. It's time for Pete to get his head out of his ass and mash. It's time for Escobar to wake the frig up. It's time to win this game and win the series. Here's your weather forecast for Atlanta: https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/07e62f1430a32035f6a554b04a77f7bd4a9e79018178e06edcea8fd25eecf6dchttps://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/07e62f1430a32035f6a554b04a77f7bd4a9e79018178e06edcea8fd25eecf6dc
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Big Game Gaydar activated.Often this year, the Mets have pleasantly surprised us even when they looked bad going in, like today does. What I'm saying is, today is the kind of situation the Mets biff seemingly 90% in any of the last six years, unless it's very early in the year (2020), or long after it matters anymore (2019). So not to put too much meaning on 1/162nds of a season, but this is why the Gaydar exists, and when we gotta believe yyybbb

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Wow.I think it's clear that we can kinda no longer hoping that Smith can find himself. We're at the point where we need it to happen.

[TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/atlanta-braves-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH]

[TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH][TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH]

=#FF5910]1=#002D72]Brandon Nimmo (L)=#FF5910]cf=#13274F]1=#CE1141]Ronald Acuña, Jr. (R)=#13274F]rf

=#FF5910]2=#002D72]Francisco Lindor (S)=#FF5910]ss=#13274F]2=#CE1141]Dansby Swanson (R)=#13274F]ss

=#FF5910]3=#002D72]Pete Alonso (R)=#FF5910]1b=#13274F]3=#CE1141]Matt Olson (L)=#13274F]1b

=#FF5910]4=#002D72]Luis Guillorme (L)=#FF5910]2b=#13274F]4=#CE1141]Austin Riley (R)=#13274F]3b

=#FF5910]5=#002D72]Mark Cahna (R)=#FF5910]lf=#13274F]5=#CE1141]William Contreras (R)=#13274F]c

=#FF5910]6=#002D72]Dominic Smith (L)=#FF5910]dh=#13274F]6=#CE1141]Eddie Rosario (R)=#13274F]dh

=#FF5910]7=#002D72]Eduardo Escobar (S)=#FF5910]3b=#13274F]7=#CE1141]Adam Duvall (R)=#13274F]lf

=#FF5910]8=#002D72]Travis Jankowski (L)=#FF5910]rf=#13274F]8=#CE1141]Robinson Canó (R)=#13274F]2b

=#FF5910]9=#002D72]Tomás Nido (R)=#FF5910]c=#13274F]9=#CE1141]Michael Harris II (L)=#13274F]cf

[TH][/TH][TH]Pitcher[/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH]Pitcher[/TH][TH][/TH]

=#FF5910]=#002D72]Chris Bassitt (L)=#FF5910]sp=#13274F]=#CE1141]Charlie Morton (R)=#13274F]sp

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) Dom Smith's streak of 102 consecutive games with at least 1 plate appearance and 0 home runs is tied for 45th-longest in Mets history. The upper echelons of the list (per Baseball Reference's searchable Stathead) is littered mostly with Bud Harrelson types. Buddy has six streaks of more than 100 games games without a homer. A couple of names you wouldn't instinctively expect to see with longer steaks than Dom's include John Stearns (whose 46 HRs as a Met matches Dom's total) and young Wayne Garrett (though he blasted a World Series homer in the midst of that 1969-1970 regular-season void). The point here: Dom really needs to go yard. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 For a meaningful number of weeks there, the Mets had, like, five guys seemingly qualified to hit behind Alonso, and this lineup seems kind of like Buck's way of telling them they've all lost that status.Hopefully that KABOOM! was Escobar's way of showing he got the message.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Two on with the heart of the order coming.Big chance to put a dent in this game. 2-0 to Lindor.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 If Gary is mystified that Austin Riley (or Lindor or Nimmo or Taijuan) aren't All-Stars, it's because David Bednar and Joe Mantiply are due to that dopey, antiquated "every team" rule.

Backman? Treviño?John Valentin?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Also a lot of 1980 types. Also interesting to see Justin Turner and recall the run that sealed his fate in new York. But no Valentin action.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 The sixth inning is when reality punches Mets' starters in the nose.Scherzer got punched in the seventh, but he's Max Scherzer.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Strange how if you dodge a tag on the way to first, but stay in the baseline, but your change of direction takes you out of the baseline a step later, you're safe.Braves didn't even challenge.
